All cross country services suspended 23/08/26

Sounds like gross neglience on the part of whoever sanctioned that arrangement.

"Remote" stations within an hour or two of Dundee

Is that 3 hours away by train or driving? Sorry - helps to be able to read!!!! How about Stow - counterintuitive as you’re in the opposite direction from “remote Scotland” - but as a bonus you get a trip over both Bridges. Being a modern reopening - it doesn’t have that remote a feel, though...

    Strange Things Seen on CIS

    1. A one-off: Being welcomed to Bletchley - by the screens at Barassie 2. Sadly not a one-off: Screens insisting that the first train at the platform is the 17:00 to xyz and that the second train is the 16:40 to xyz - both trains showing as on time. How can a computer not be programmed to reject...

For the Far North line could a single car from a 158/9 be turned into a 90mph detachable Highland Explorer active travel (cycles etc) car..

The most obvious difference is that you rarely have to insert a bicycle onto a roof rack between two others belonging to strangers while the car is in motion. Apart from that…

Whittlesea station and East Midlands Railway stopping cancellations

No - I mean that the operator that runs all but one of the trains that stop there has a workable method of doing so. The operator that runs the other has failed to ensure that the trains that it uses all are equipped to stop there safely, according (I believe) to its own rules.

Whittlesea station and East Midlands Railway stopping cancellations

It sounds as if it’s fit for purpose under the “Anglia” umbrella - since this problem doesn’t arise with their trains. It’s the trains that EMR deploy that aren’t fit for purpose.

Whittlesea station and East Midlands Railway stopping cancellations

To each passenger it is irrelevant whether they are the only one or one of thousands. That is the only metric that matters. The regulator should be coming down on this (like on many other things) like a ton of bricks and serving some kind of enforcement order - at the very least for alternative...

    Banking trains in the UK

Biomass seems a very pejorative word for passengers - even if strictly accurate!

    Banking trains in the UK

Don’t think they were in later years when it was a case of the train engine that had brought the previous working in giving the departing train a push en route to Eastfield.

Getting passengers to spread out along the platform

At all 3 stations involved in my daily commute there are frequent last minute platform changes that don’t just entail turning round and facing the other way. Little surprise that those in the know tend to hang around the stairs (or the staff info screens) till a change is physically impossible.

Whittlesea station and East Midlands Railway stopping cancellations

I wondered exactly the same thing when I noticed the same train not calling there on Saturday (3-car 170 vice 2-car 158 was my thought)

    Banking trains in the UK

Other than Lickey (the sleeper) and Cowlairs (quite a lot) where was the last regularly scheduled banking of passenger trains in the UK? Not talking about railtours, push-pull operations or ailing locos… Again for clarity, not including MLVs on the Folkestone Harbour branch unless they came off...

Sounds like.another case of itinerary programme planning “Nanny knows best”. Is there an option (like on DB) to deselect bus journeys?

How vulnerable is the UK to hybrid attacks?

The answer to that is to be found in recent (ie the last 50 years) history. If it’s known or suspected, no. However a determined terrorist organisation which isn’t too fussed about a particular target will get results. Remember the chilling words of the IRA. “You were lucky. But you have to be...

Companies That You Expect to Disappear Soon

Not sure anyone has suggested that the online / smartphone options should not be available; merely that policy decisions should not be made on the basis of an assumption that they are a viable option for all. 1787142984 In terms of Royal Mail (or the early days of bus regulation) I disagree...
