I would get shot of that ridiculously bright lighting in the FGW mk3's, I hate it so much, i don't mind it in the daytime but at night it is unbearable, I would actually like to be able to see out the window at night time and not see the person sitting on the opposite side of the carriage!

I think you have hit the nail right on the head there, the days of british rail's "speed war" with the APT and HST has long gone. But i also do think that people are getting a little more concious about the green credentials of train travel but then I dont think that most people realise that...

why would they spend all that money though on refurbing them and then only to stop using them a couple of months later?
