Sometimes on Thameslink announcements are made but are so quiet that they cannot be heard! Out of interest, are drivers given training in using the public announcement systems?
Liverpool St to Hertford East definitely had a trolley service in the mid 90's - I remember buying the odd lager from them after a bad day in the office!
Yesterday, because of a reduced service, the last Mildmay service from West Brompton to Stratford (22:25) was cancelled (it actually started at Willesden Junction). I had planned to catch this train to West Hampstead and then onwards to St Albans. The ticket I had was only valid by this route...
Last May I had the misfortune to encounter this in Germany. Having left the Airport Station and taken 2 trains to get to Freising, a group of us got on the wrong half of a dividing train and instead of going to Landshut ended up back at Munich Airport!
I thought Frankfurt wasn't too bad. Stayed in a hotel just up the road and used to pop into the station late at night if I wanted something other than a kebab to eat! Guess my expectations must be lower than most :D
In previous years GTR has lifted the peak restrictions during the period between Xmas and the New Year but seemingly not this year, so we get to pay full price for a reduced service!
Any reason for this that anyone knows of?
If you are only using Thameslink then KeyGo can be useful. For example, the contactless fare with railcard discount from St Albans to Gatwick is an absolute bargain!
I don't understand why weekend Super off peak tickets are no longer available from Luton, Leagrave and Harlington but are still available from stations further in - not that I'm complaining!
