Given the number of Network Rail staff in Square One who walk down P1 to get to the concourse shops at lunchtime, barriering that end would be an absolute nightmare for them anyway!

Well, yes technically there is rail, sleepers and ballast owned by NR on site, but its purely for training, has never seen a train, and is nowhere near any real railway.

Come 1700ish (depending on shift change), the signallers would go home, all the signals would revert to danger, and your traincrews would be stranded in the arse end of nowhere.
