SWR cracking down on Vauxhall - Waterloo doughnuts/short fares - Also GTR

Great Northern are good at on train inspections. I travel from Finsbury to Welwyn Garden City twice a week and get inspected roughly every two weeks on board. Welwyn Garden City also has their barriers set to reject any ticket with a Railcard applied, meaning these tickets must be manually (and...

London to Edinburgh via Manchester (avoiding LNER Simpler Fares Trial)

Hello all, I am booking some travel for work coming up in the next few weeks where I need to do the following: 11th July morning: Finsbury Park to Manchester 11th July late afternoon: Manchester to Edinburgh 12th July early morning: Edinburgh to Welwyn Garden City 12th July late evening...

Different revenue protection approaches at different TOCs?

Great Northern are very hot on revenue protection. I travel from North London to Welwyn Garden City twice a week and get checked at least once on board the train almost every week, including at odd times such as 7.00 on a Sunday morning. From what I've seen they are generally quite pragmatic...

    Delay Repay - time discrepancy

I had the exact same issue with GWR recently at Paddington - persisted in arguing to them that it was impossible for me to have been off the train before we were 15 minutes late from the data they provided, and with a threat of taking them to the ombudsman they paid out in the end.

    Delay Repay dispute with GWR

I took the liberty to do a bit of research about this just to square it in my head that I wasn't making things up. The timing discrepancy appears to be unique to Platform 12 at Paddington - all the sites tally for the other platforms with no difference (Realtimetrains, Recenttraintimes etc)...

    Delay Repay dispute with GWR

Yes, everyone on the train is entitled to Delay Repay and I'd love to know how many other people claimed at the 30 minute level. GWR has already paid out to me at the incorrect 15 minute level, so I am seeking the additional compensation to bring it up to 30 minutes, and I will also be asking...

    Delay Repay dispute with GWR

Done - when the ombudsman inevitably sides with GWR what next?

    Delay Repay dispute with GWR

I'm in a dispute with GWR over how late 1A32 BRI-PAD on Sunday 11th August was - this train was short formed and was full and standing the whole way, and was substituted for a pair of 165s vice and IET, which caused it to slowly lose time due to the lower top speed. Booked arrival time was...

Unlawful Use of SJPN by Train Companies for Section 5(1) RoRA Prosecutions

Is it possible that the TOCs involved in this mess could quite possibly find themselves at the wrong end of a lawsuit for malicious prosecution in the cases of RoRA 5(1) being charged when their own evidence showed the defendant was unambigously not guilty of the offence? If so, they could be on...

Anytime and off peak almost the same price

Does anyone have any idea as to why the anytime and off peak fares from Alexandra Palace to Welwyn Garden City are almost the same price? £15.20 vs £14.30 for returns. And secondarily why are they so much more expensive than equivalent distances to stations on the Hertford Loop (ie Hertford North)

    GWR Class 165/166 Turbo Diagrams

I had the misfortune of being on this last night - it was full and standing for the whole journey. I honestly could not believe what I was seeing when I arrived for the train at Bristol TM.

    Stations with split signalling control

How many stations are there where different signal control centres (box, ROC, ASC, PSB, SCC whatever) control different platforms? I don't mean situations like Stockport or Shrewsbury where the absolute block section is the length of the platform, but where different platforms are on physically...

I'd like some advice on the following This weekend I need to travel to Manchester and will buy a ticket on the day as I'm not sure exactly of the travel times. Leaving tomorrow will be straightforward, but coming back on Sunday there are practically no trains on the WCML as Avanti and LNWR are...
