    Wires down on HS1?

First dewirement on HS1? Certainly an unusual event anyway.

Highest temp train air con can cope with

I was on three EMUs yesterday (17/07/22) 390, 395 and 375. The 390 was cool, but not cold, with one coach having a totally failed A/C pack. The 395 was acceptable and the 375 was like an ice box, which I thought was ironic as it was the oldest with the biggest windows (although some cars had...

Incorrect press statement - the Forth Bridge can have overhead electric lines installed

I agree, it's quite a fun thought experiment though.

Incorrect press statement - the Forth Bridge can have overhead electric lines installed

This is a totally absurd post and I understand it would never be done, but theoretically the whole bridge could be made +25kv (referenced to earth) and the track could be made 0v, with the track placed on insulators. I that would remove clearance issues, but introduce another fleet of...

    Class 20 - remote control.

That's really not true, anyone who went on one of the Class 37 hauled short sets out of Norwich will attest to the locos at both ends of the train working in multiple, the Mk2 coaches being through wired for blue star working.

Fastest Accelerating MUs in the UK

That's not a myth, I was told that on 'telly' whilst on the first scheduled 395 run by Vince Lucas of Southeastern, the train did 200km/h tops all the way from Ashford to London, I asked why they didn't at least do 225km/h for the cameras (which they said they were doing) he explained that they...

    Trainspotting at Euston discouraged?

Last time I went to Euston, I signed on and then I got free realm of the place, the staff were very helpful and friendly. This was a few years ago, but I doubt much as changed. I think for H&S reasons signing on is a good idea for everyone at a big station like Euston.

    Ahh, this has happened before!

    Class 377/5 Southeastern

What about 2R90 1650 CHX-FKC, currently an 8-car Networker, which I thought went back to Ashford and birthed?

    Should trains have double-glazed windows?

Plenty of cars have double glazing as an option. Of course it adds weight, cost and complexity; but it significantly reduces NVH levels.

    37/4s & DRS DBSO

Yes, the coaches are through wired and piped. The Blue Star system uses air control as well as electric. I think the DBSOs basically have a 37 cab grafted in.

Overstretched UK border control cause delays at Gare du Nord

Absolutely agree, I've always found the French staff to be extremely funny and polite or extremely disinterested. The British staff are normally very very rude, with exceptions, of course.
