I don’t suppose it’s doing anything in the South West until next season?6024 is hauling its first excursion (after its return to steam) on Wednesday 11th November: The Cumbrian Mountaineer from Crewe to Carlisle

If it is, then it has been kept very secretApparently Scots Guardsman is hauling the RTC tour tomorrow
Its under overhaul at Crewe, LSL Facebook post confirmed in in Post #53 of this thread.Where is 45231 at the moment ? Did it go to Margate ?
This would be a massive surprise but I really hope you are right, would be nice to get rid of the 'Active... ish' tag and allow me to see some of the vacuum braked locos.Apparently Scots Guardsman is hauling the RTC tour tomorrow
It was in steam with an RTC headboard on it so I can only imagineIf it is, then it has been kept very secret
Do you have any images pleaseIt was in steam with an RTC headboard on it so I can only imagine
Do you have any images please

According to the OG poster, yesI’m assuming dated today and not an old image?
According to the OG poster, yes
It a a bit irrelevant now, 46115 is now confirmed with CDL mk1s and 47802 on the rearCan you provide a source, please? Posting images without a source isn't a good look.
Hopefully the mk1s give tangemere a long restIve returned 46115 & 48151 to 'Active' on the initial post due to the appearance of CDL MK1's this morning. I will change 44932 & 45699 when they next make an appearance.
Unlikely, the Northern belle still needs an air braked engine, plus it's just one rake, so far, so I don't think we will see the end of the MK2's any time soon.Hopefully the mk1s give tangemere a long rest
Could it be substituted for another loco then for the Chirstmas jobs then?Failed (once again) - looped at Warrington. Fortunately 37401 on the back. Tangmere unfairly has the reputation Britannia deserves.
Agreed, 71000 is doing much better and it’s one of a kindI wonder why 70000 can't be made to run reliably.
There's not much "special" or unusual about it, and comes from a class built in some numbers
Perhaps they should loan it to a heritage line like the East Lancs so it can have a good run in at slow speed before being sent out on the mainline again.LSL aren't exactly stretched for steam locos.
I think 70000 has only had one outing in service this year. 08/04 on The Cumbrian Mountaineer - when it failed at Oxenholme.
It appears to have been replaced on the Steam Dreams website by 71000 for most, if not all of the Xmas outings.Could it be substituted for another loco then for the Chirstmas jobs then?
A while ago I heard from a professional steam driver that 70000 had problems with its axleboxes / hornguides in that the loco could not "sit down" and run reliably. Whether that was successfully resolved I have no idea.70000 Britannia out today working from Crewe to Carnforth on a test run before I believe heading south for Christmas work. Does anybody know why she has been seemingly absent for the whole of this year? (If my memory isn’t failing me)
Oh ok, thanksIt appears to have been replaced on the Steam Dreams website by 71000 for most, if not all of the Xmas outings.
Standard 4MT 80080 was passed for mainline running around the time you mention. I remember seeing it heading to Matlock one day, while I was out walking in Derbyshire.Do wonder if someone will ever consider overhauling a standard 4 tank for mainline work again?
Believe it was in the 80s/90s that 1 of them was mainline. Fairly sturdy locos & plenty of grunt too.
My guess would be no (as much as I would like to see it). I would imagine operational complexity as longer runs would require a lot of water stops and shorter routes have fast accelerating EMU/DMUs nowadays making pathing difficult. Also economics wise, I don’t know if long enough trains could be pulled to make it viable for the major tour company’s.Do wonder if someone will ever consider overhauling a standard 4 tank for mainline work again?

And 80079 from the SVR too, IIRC both 79 and 80 worked on the Cambrian festivities.Standard 4MT 80080 was passed for mainline running around the time you mention. I remember seeing it heading to Matlock one day, while I was out walking in Derbyshire.
