I noticed Easyjet are starting Manchester to Southampton

A route that was operated by Flybe until about 7 years ago

Cross Country does link both, but takes over 4 hours to do so.

I believe Loganair have recently stopped the route.

Yes, I wonder if Easyjet can succeed on this route.

Also not the most relaxing train because it stops a lot and there's lots of churn, compared to say London-Scotland which might be first stop Warrington or York.

There's a reason it's being flown with an A320 too. Lots of potential on this route - disappointed it's only twice a week! Loganair were expensive, it's great to have a proper competitor to XC at last

That would send Loganair away. Good chunk of flyers from Scotland to Southampton are connecting to and from cruises.

Even their Tartan 17 Sale running at the moment fails to produce half decent fares.

That's the thing - Loganair are great but the prices are criminal. It's the same thing to a lesser degree with Manchester, you have both cruise passengers and holidaymakers connecting to Bournemouth and Weymouth

These sort of operations are in marginal time, because of the short flight duration.

I wouldn't be surprised if this sort of schedule is also a convenient way to swap the fleet between home bases to suit a maintenance and overhaul schedule

Yes, two weekly is not ideal but its a start. Easyjet now have a fair few routes from SOU.

Yeah, Loganair have pulled it, and not all that long after they first launched it either. Which possibly says quite a bit about the demand given Loganair were also flying it in marginal time, using one of the IOM-based ATR72s.

EasyJet are good at hoovering up weekend traffic, especially if they can fly the routes in the marginal time on an aircraft. That’ll be why the frequency is more limited, I’m guessing it’ll be Friday/Monday.

That's the thing - Loganair are great but the prices are criminal.

The prices largely reflect the nature of smaller aircraft flying more frequently.

I’ve always been one to defend Loganair but they are starting to take the pee with fares, especially on days/routes with no competition. The fuel surcharge in particular grinds my gears, especially as they said they’d remove it if oil dropped below 60USD a barrel. Before Donny Diaper’s shenanigans in Iran it was well below that level but the surcharge remained.

That said, take any sort of luggage and easyJet are usually no cheaper.
