I'm not doubting you (well), but really? What makes you say that?
Seems logical to me. In the South West people are used to having a lot of green trains, and an occasional greyish coloured CrossCountry train. Then some other greyish coloured trains turn up, with an intercity style layout, and based on the appearances you're used to you assume they're CrossCountry.

I don't think any station is ever completely empty..... Denton perhaps
I did see someone get on the 9.04 Stockport - Stalybridge train there on April 25th.

Judging by his kit etc I have the feeling this was another rail enthusiast.

Otherwise a Green party supporter who wanted to use both Gorton and Denton stations ;)

Whatever the colour, the service in the far west is far from reliable at the moment. Wednesday afternoon was not great, as an example, with two consecutive down services around 90 late, leaving a huge gap before the first.

Yes there are buses, but at this time of year people are travelling with suitcases, have planned on taking the train and are unfamiliar with bus routes / times. Buses are therefore not ideal.

Most of the Public think they're XC trains!
Best not paint them green until they’re reliable then. XC name is already beyond repair so let them keep taking the blame. Or, get them working nicely just in time for the GWR nationalisation later this year.

There seems to be a lot of hate from some people, but genuinely it’s great that GWR are trying to make this work. There isn’t an alternative is there? Apart from maybe a few 222s instead but I thought they’d all gone to Scotland or Lumo.

It’s either try to make what could be a really decent train work properly or a huge reduction in services, a situation I believe was forced upon GWR.

I wonder how many years it has been since the last direct train from Okehampton to Plymouth!? Yes I know it was only empties.

And if it's the first ever direct one one via the coast (rather than via Tavistock)?

Are 175s permitted to run in multiple in passenger service with both units accessible to passengers yet?
Yes, providing they're not calling at short platforms. 2E28 ran as a double set with both in use on Friday night. Thankfully it is finally starting to feel like there's some more breathing space in the fleet - despite the obvious teething.

Hoping that things are beginning to improve and that teething troubles become far less common.

Following up on query
Yes, providing they're not calling at short platforms. 2E28 ran as a double set with both in use on Friday night. Thankfully it is finally starting to feel like there's some more breathing space in the fleet - despite the obvious teething.

For information, all the platforms lengths, a 2car set is 48m long, 3car is 72m long, so double set question only arises on platforms that cannot take trains that are around 80-145m (depending on if 4 or 5 or 6 car)

Per sectional appendix platforms under 150m, those not listed can take 2x3cars. Following restricted to 5 or less vehicles

Route 108 (pages 95-123)
Exeter St David's platform 2 102m
Exeter St Thomas platform 1 102m, platform 2 111m
Marsh Barton plat 1 124m, plat 2 111m
Dawlish Warren plat 1 129m, plat 2 127m
Ivybridge both platforms 104m
Plymouth plat 3 (bay) 78m
Devonport plat 1 100m
Dockyard plat 1 96m, plat 2 79m
Keyham plat 1 129m, plat 2 123m
St Budeaux Ferry Road plat 1 124m, plat 2 126m
Saltash plat 1 124m, plat 2 127m
St Germans plat 1 128m, plat 2 133m
Menheniot plat 1 124m, plat 2 97m
Lostwithiel plat 1 103m, plat 2 124m
Truro plat 1 (bay) 80m
Hayle plat 1 132m, plat 2 135m
St Erth plat 3 (St Ives bay) 106m

The Oakhampton line (which is about to be route tested)
route 606 (Barnstaple) and 608 Oakhampton (pages 251-257)

Newton St Cyres platform 120m
Crediton down plat 135m, up 155m
Yeoford Barnstaple platform 136m, Oakhampton plat out of use
Oakhampton Interchange under construction
Oakhampton platform 3 123m

Copplestone platform 87m
Morchard Road platform 90m
Lapford platform 81m
Eggesford down plat 85m, up plat 92m
Kings Nympton platform 90m
Portsmouth Arms platform 74m
Umberleigh 139m
Chapleton platform 100m
Barnstaple platform 142m

As can be seen, a few platforms can barely get a 3car unit in, some can take 4car, some 5car, some 6car, and others (not listed) more than 6car

Just a few metres extra platform at some stations, would make quite a difference to what length fits in most platforms

I was hoping too, but Monday always seem to have shortforms Two on Paignton-Exmouth; a 2car 150 and a 2 car 158.
Newquay has had 175001, 002, 006, 007, and 011 which has done 8 of the days since the new timetable.

001 has now decided to sit down on the Newquay branch (RTT says problem with the brakes), 114 has been snapped up from the training run to go rescue it.

Edit 10.42 - 2N10 has been reinstated from what was 1Z99 that was sat in the platform (175114), not sure if it is actually that or not but possibly the crew of 001 have rectified the issue.

Looks like 001 has just left Newquay on an ECS to Par and then onto Plymouth.
114 now allocated for the Newquay services for the rest of the day.

Trying to work this out!!! First passenger train from Newquay 0719 (a 150). The Bristol Newquay London train seems to have disappeared at Parr. The 150 disappeared altogether. The next passenger train from Newquay 1217 (175114). 5 hour gap. The 150 appears at 1325. Can't be right?

The IET (2N99 BRI-NQY and 1A86 NQY-PAD) was diverted to finish/start at Truro. Meanwhile, the 150 was put into Par Chapel Sidings after working 2N01 (0719 NQY-PAR) until 175001 passed Par working empty back to Plymouth. The 150 is about to run 2N12 (1229 PAR-NQY).

175001 now allocated onto 2C26/2P21 after having failed earlier, how interesting!

Ran to Truro then the London train started there instead of Newquay and is now running back up.

Where did 175001 break down to cause a five hour gap which is not likely to encourage passenger growth if can't sort it out quicker.

E11 1050 Penzance - Exeter with 175112 cancelled at Plymouth with brake problems.

First of all regular failures due to door/doors problems which seem to have now disappeared only to be replaced by reported brake problems, pretty unusual.

Whatever was wrong with 001 seems to have been fixed really quickly as it ran a perfect service for 2C26/2P21 and also it's afterward training runs, couldn't have been too serious.

112's cancellation I believe would more likely be brought on by crew disruption (it's what GWR's journeycheck said) so possibly the crew for that were working 175001 prior.

Thanks for the update. Units returned to depot with brakes allegations usually have to have some lengthy testing and you wouldn`t expect to see them back out until at the earliest the next day.
Possibly a simple error or crew un familiarisation of unit ?

Quite possibly. 114 is apparently missing a vestibule door though and had a little bit of a leak (water into the vestibule) at some point during the day so that likely needs to be checked.

As an aside, I'd reserve any judgements of the units until after they've appeared in their new livery and new interiors as that's when we can see what they're truly like, judging them based on worn down interiors that haven't really been touched since their days at TfW as Wolverton were only required to do the work required to get them back into use and send them off. The first refurbed unit is having a C6 plus all the cosmetic stuff done to it so hopefully it'll be okay.

It's been a better start this week though compared to last week and fingers crossed they'll do better this week, possibly getting some of the other units that have arrived from Wolverton into service (115, 113, 101...) would be ideal in my mind too.

In what way do you mean its missing a vestibule door, missing as not even there or missing just isolated and fully open ?

There could be a number of reasons for water ingress into a vestibule and depends if No1 or No2 end.

Would anyone happen to have any update on the current situation with 175010 down in Penzance?

Whether it is being worked on so it can enter service soon, or if it is just there for crew familiarisation still?
