With the rise in temperature its possible that some units could have suffered cooling problems especially if GWR haven`t got there radiator cleaning regime sorted for engine and cooler groups.

First test to Okehampton after service Friday next week before returning to Laira.
Units still having door problems but they seem to be reducing ?
I don`t know if the units then get pulled every time they have a door fault ? but it was very rare to "cape" a unit with a door fault unless it was wrong side which was extremely rare and it would have been many many years ago.
Usually door faults were very well managed by the train crew to keep the unit in service, even doors A1 and B1 on 50 and 79 cars.

They didn't spend years in storage when they were at TfW. Plus there was years of built up experience on how to deal with their foibles. Any fleet would probably struggle under these circumstances, but it would be especially challenging for one built by 2000 era Alsthom.

I agree about the storage issues being a factor for sure, If I could find the "Cold Storage" VMI document I would like to read it again and see what was detailed in it.
It wasn`t always great when we were maintaining them and we did have some occasional struggles along the way.
175s are a pretty specialised fleet with many foibles and we did have years of experience of them.
Both still stuck in Par it seems (in the down loop).
007 which replaced 114 on its diagram also failed in Exeter later on, and then on the Dawlish seawall. That one is now on the move towards Plymouth though.

They really do seem to be just dropping like flies daily.
Of course the weather's gonna have an impact and also storage issues causing the units to be rather worn out. I'm sure the maintenance teams at Laira are pulling their hair out over these.

Depot staff and train crew are probably on a pretty steep learning curve at the moment and I hope depot staff can lean on Alstom for some advice but I`m sure all will come good sooner rather than later.
Maybe depot staff can join the forum and ask some questions and I will try and answer them, I`m saying this very much tongue in cheek and certainly not trying to insult their knowledge and expertise in any way.
We've seen this pattern with 175s before, when CAF took over their maintenance and reliability took a hit, it'll be worse when it's new to everyone as is here.
At least they've not combusted yet!

Would it be at all possible to email and offer any knowledge you can, I'm not entirely sure how these things work but I'm sure they'd love a bit of assistance, even if it's just a few quick words!
Brake problems can be varied with the most common no brake release for a number of reasons and not just a brake problem. Other reasons reported could be poor brakes which was super rare, even with the Hydrodynamic brake isolated which it has been for years. Dragging brakes have been an issue at times with some genuine, most common when coupled and some spurious via TMS. It only takes a small air leak at one of the CLAU units - Closed Loop Analogue Unit - 2 per car, to cause dragging brakes which I have a video of. During the time that we maintained 175s I can only recall only a small number of times a unit ever failed a brake test on exam and it was usually a straight forward fix.
Without knowing the true circumstances of what the failure was we can only speculate which is a dangerous thing at times

I have no idea on reasons (my professional interest only extends as far as Swindon or Westbury), just suggesting why we might have seen a downturn in reliability

We are aware of an issue with emails from the Forum to Microsoft-based email accounts (hotmail/outlook/live.com email addresses). This is being looked into currently, thanks for your patience meanwhile.
