So what is their current livery? Is that not standard GWR livery?
The 800/0s were painted white from new with the GWR livery applied as vinyl. The other GWR 800 and 802 were painted green from new.

On this, and diverting the thread again, all the DfT ordered batches of 80X are in “dealer stock white” with grey doors underneath, it’s just that the GWR leased units were less obvious than their GWR ordered cousins. The giveaway from an 800/0 vs 802 are the white gaps around the passenger and cab doors, and vehicle ends.

The repaints are being done partially to keep the bodywork in good condition for the next few years (the West fleet is a good example of why paint is preferred over endless vinyl based schemes) and as part of the “surgery” at Eastleigh which involves cutting out the area around the bolsters and removing the old design before welding in the newly designed replacement components. I don’t think the LNER fleet is receiving the same amount of body treatment but theirs is essentially a red band over the aforementioned ‘dealer stock white’ they were delivered in.

Anyway, having seen further images from the 175s in Cornwall, it’s the interior refresh I’m rather looking forward to. Hopefully it will extend up to the ceiling panels and will be fitted with replacement (brighter) LED lighting tubes with the technoware dimming system as fitted to the HST vehicles.

I'd be very surprised if they didn't replace the lighting inside the units, when I was on 175009 on March 31st from Exeter to Plymouth, some of the lights were dimmed out. It's not ideal and shows their dire need of replacement.

Not quite. The GWR 800/3 units are painted green.

The first green set at Wolverton is also the first to have the interior refit - both are being tackled at the same time. The interior refit is well underway on that set with release expected later in the summer.

If it was just a random light out here and there, likely to be a tube or inverter fault, but if it appeared that half of the lights were out in both cars including the vestibule ceiling lights dimmer than normal too then that would be a 110v charger fault on one of the cars.

175112 appears to be struggling again... Believe it has had transmission issues recently.
Not a great unit that one at the moment. 111 is now on the last part of the diagram to Exeter then back to Laira.

It appears that 112 is having a few teething troubles lately, I agree. Prior to the reported transmission issues today it was a re occurrence of TMS problems last time.

I think it was 112 that failed at Acton during delivery with air problems too.

I would still be interested on the symptoms of todays transmission issues.

That was 115 that failed, hasn't made it off Laira yet.

Another unit that's been struggling is 101, hasn't made it off the depot properly into service yet and was meant to be on today's 2C26 diagram.

Reported elsewhere that it wasn't transmission issues, apparently a blank TMS screen instead.

But I have heard that it has had some transmission problems over the last couple of weeks...

Is the reported blank TMS screen the same problem as its previous TMS problems and is it the same cab each time ?

Usually a blank TMS screen is usually a failed screen and often indicated by the red LED lit above the green LED in this picture, obviously the green LED is not lit in this instance. Also can be confirmed from the other cabs screen in the maintenance section as it would show the other cabs screen not reporting to the TMS, problem could also be that cabs CU-TMDU - Control Unit Train Management Digital Unit - Another issue could be an intermittent screen backlight failure.

When fitting a new screen it has to be programmed to the cab it is fitted too also.

For clarity, no transmission issues on 112. Was TMDD issues again today.

Thanks again, is it the same cabs screen each time ?

As always, cant go into too much detail however I believe the TMDD screen was extraordinary dim this time around in one of the cabs. An attempt at a fix on route was made however unfortunately on the return working the decision was made to pull it from service.

Those old LCD screens use fluorescent backlighting and it sounds like the lamp or inverter/ballast circuitry has failed.

A benefit this week of 175s in public service, except for Monday, the Devon and Cornwall branches have had no short forms.

No benefits elsewhere on GWR as far as I know.

That's an improvement on 4 weeks of April

Devon had been 53 short forms
Cornwall & Plymouth had 56 short forms
EF04 London - SW England had 31 short forms

roughly 2 per day, each local area, and one per day to/from London

Thanks for the additional information and I appreciate that you can`t go into too much detail.

It sounds like the TMS and the screen was working but the information on screen was difficult to see due to it not bright enough, this does happen at times and it also happens to the other extreme where drivers report that it is too bright especially at night, there is a light sensor to determine brightness.

In the instance of a very dimly lit screen and the driver wants to see what is displayed or enter information, sometimes just pulling down the drivers sunblind will increase the brightness for what they need to do but failing that if the driver shines a torch very close to the 3 LEDs next to the number keypad the screen will almost always go to full brightness providing the back light is ok.

Its not ideal in service, I accept, but it means that the unit can continue in service rather than the service being cancelled. Driver usually has the last word if he is prepared to continue with the unit or not until the screen can be replaced.

If the unit has around 10 minutes in the timetable the screen can be swapped out with a working screen robbed from another units cab without the need for programming.

There were two last Monday on Paignton-Exmouth. 13 150s in use. Tuesday- Wednesday 15 were in use then 13 and 14 today. 158s filling the gap.

This is only the branches and not the mainline.

I did notice yesterday that the diagram on Barnstaple that is usually operated by the pair of 150s, was actually worked by a 3 car 16x.

But yes, a good improvement in the last week.
