As always, cant go into too much detail however I believe the TMDD screen was extraordinary dim this time around in one of the cabs. An attempt at a fix on route was made however unfortunately on the return working the decision was made to pull it from service.
Thanks for the additional information and I appreciate that you can`t go into too much detail.
It sounds like the TMS and the screen was working but the information on screen was difficult to see due to it not bright enough, this does happen at times and it also happens to the other extreme where drivers report that it is too bright especially at night, there is a light sensor to determine brightness.
In the instance of a very dimly lit screen and the driver wants to see what is displayed or enter information, sometimes just pulling down the drivers sunblind will increase the brightness for what they need to do but failing that if the driver shines a torch very close to the 3 LEDs next to the number keypad the screen will almost always go to full brightness providing the back light is ok.
Its not ideal in service, I accept, but it means that the unit can continue in service rather than the service being cancelled. Driver usually has the last word if he is prepared to continue with the unit or not until the screen can be replaced.
If the unit has around 10 minutes in the timetable the screen can be swapped out with a working screen robbed from another units cab without the need for programming.
