The Southern service used to run to Bournemouth but was cut back to Southampton as the reliability of such a long service from London Victoria was poor. Certainly worth reviewing now that the Southern service starts from Brighton instead.Excellent plan! The stopper to Winchester could usefully be extended to Basingstoke. With the advent of GBR, the Southern service from Brighton could be extended to Bournemouth or perhaps Brockenhurst, so that this no longer blocked platforms at Southampton Central.
The whole Basingstoke to Bournemouth route feels very clogged with two track running and few terminating platforms to free up space for through running.
