The 2025 salary for CSS2 is £54,126.
The 2026 implementation notices haven't been released yet, but it should be around the £56,000 mark. This will not currently be reflected in contracts.
If your 'friend' wanted to challenge their contract they would be within their rights to, but I wouldn't waste my time - LU rates of pay are not fixed to the contract and with how the business works you will be paid appropriately to the grade you have - as long as this is recorded correctly (and it will be for a new entrant) then it won't cause any issues.

Sounds like my current work place. When they issue out a pay rise you only see it on your wage slip at the top, not on the contract. Suppose all companies are doing it now.

They went external because internal staff were either not meeting the benchmark and equally there are many staff that live in East London and do not want to commute across to West London, so TfL went external.
Why do loads of staff live in east London ?

Because they do? I don’t ask everyone why they live where they live, but most live in East London or Essex. I’m from East London but moved to Cambs.

East London is generally cheaper than West London.
Historically, East London was also where many of London's working class lived, with the West being more 'exclusive'. There are various socioeconomic reasons for this, and it's quite fascinating to look into.

90% of the people on my group are from east London, and the rest including myself live locally. The balance astounds me, the turnover on my area is high due to everyone nominating out at the first opportunity

This was the position I held when I worked for LUL. Started as a Station Supervisor Multi Functional, outside zone one, in fact in zone 7. Yes I did nights, yes I was on my own yes I did work weekends and Bank Holidays. I also had to evacuate a train with the help of the train operator, in the dark, in 6 inches of snow. Certainly didn't earn the figure quoted in this thread. Probably half that. It was a long time ago.

Yeah it’s normally closer to the date, usually it’s around 09:00-09:30 with an arrival time in the reception at Ashfield house at around 08:45 for ID checks. Make sure you’re early (not just on time) you want to make a good impression of yourself and set yourself up for “what good looks like” as when it comes to punctuality and attendance with the underground it’s an absolute must.
Being late on any of your training dates can affect you massively as the trainer can send reports to your future CSM’s or AM’s informing them how punctual you’ve been or not been, so it’s paramount you are on top form.

Hi all, I just had my OH for CSS2. I suffered a seizure in November last year. Everything else during the medical was fine. The doctor said she would put me down as fit to work but cannot do lone working or safety critical jobs and that I would need to attend a follow up meeting in November once I’ve been seizure free for 1 year. Despite being declared fit to work would my start date be delayed until November?

It’s certainly a possibility for CSS2 - equally this could lead to the job offer being withdrawn given that CSS2 is a safety critical role involving a lot of lone working.
It is likely that there will be a follow up discussion with recruitment, and at that stage you should have an honest and open dialogue - and be proactive about delaying a start date if that is something that looks possible. It’s better that than have the offer withdrawn!
The alternative would be to look at getting a private referral to get a sooner clearance - this would certainly be taken into account if it came from a relevant specialist.
Whilst TfL are very proactive and supportive of staff with medical conditions (I speak first hand here) it is a slightly different perspective for new starters - you have to look at it through the business’ perspective and potentially taking someone on who is unable to do the job potentially permanently. For those already on the job there are slightly more protections and options here.
I don’t want to be negative, but just give an honest overview of the possibilities. I think a deferred start would be most likely, but you may have to state your case for that (as it will also depend on business needs and when other CSS2 training courses are running).

Hi I’ve complete the training and it’s fairly easy if you apply yourself but i will say there is a lot of information to take in especially as a CSS. But honestly don’t think you have anything worry about if you’ve made it this far.

Appreciate the feedback. Probably should’ve mentioned that not doing lone working or safety critical jobs is only temporary until November so if a deferred start date is the worst case scenario it’s all good.
