I was being more devious, thinking of getting discounted Amazon gift cards from one of those sites, to then buy Uber gift cards … adding one more cashback/discount step

If you ask the Rufus chatbot on that page, it says "No, the Uber Gift Card can only be used for Uber rides and Uber Eats food delivery services within the UK. It cannot be used for train tickets or other transport services."

I tried to check the T&Cs, but the Amazon site gives this link: uber.com/legal/gift, which gives the T&Cs for the USA and various other countries, not including the UK.

I appreciate people may be buying these gift cards and using them successfully for train tickets despite the above, but unless I'm missing something, there would appear to be no contractual right to do so?

For what it is worth (and I appreciate that it may not be worth very much) as far as I can tell the graphics and wording on the voucher obtained through Amazon are identical to those on vouchers I acquired elsewhere and am successfully using. So if push really came to shove, I think I have a reasonable expectation that since the older voucher has been honoured for train tickets, the same will be true of the newer voucher.

I guess a lot comes down to what business model we think Uber are following. On the one hand, they are a mega corporation so they might just roll straight over the little people: 'we've got your money now so why should we care?'. On the other, they are a consumer facing outfit whose income is pretty directly from passengers (whether in minicabs or trains) so they have an interest in being a trusted partner - otherwise we'll never come back and buy another ride from/through them.

I too have some anxiety trusting Uber, but I tested it with 1 ticket first, and between their customer support, my credit card and MCOL I’m not going to lose if they suddenly impose restrictions

I've tested this in the past and unfortunately Amazon doesn't appear to allow gift card 'recycling' - either in the terms as noted above, or in practice.

What you can do is recycle a gift card which allows spending in person by contactless. For example if you acquire one4all at 20% discount you can pay for a gift card in person at a branch of Currys with that. It doesn't appear to be against the terms to do so. Some people use this method to purchase Amazon cards at 20% off and then resell the codes online at 5% off ish. I wouldn't want to endorse that, but, you could go to Currys and buy a physical Uber gift card at a possible 20% discount.

It would be useful to know whether the 15% cashback can be stacked when Uber is running its 10% in app promotion on gift cards. Did you need to do anything to be eligible for the Uber cashback on your Halifax account?

I noticed that even as a Uber One member, I'm apparently only getting 3% credits on train tickets booked today so the days of the 10% credits for Uber One members may be over. I would add that there is currently 10% off a single gift card purchase on the Uber app up to and including 6/4/2026.

Edit:- It did indeed revert back to 10% when I checked the app later in the day.

On the Uber app (apologies not the Ebay app), choose Account, then Wallet, then Send A Gift.

I also had that survey.

I certainly feel my tickets for travel today should qualify for the 10% credits as an Uber One member as it's within the current offer criteria of up to and including 31st March 2026.

Currently everup has a 4.30% cashback rate on Uber gift cards. Usually hovers around 4% to 5%.

Wondering if anyone else has any sites that give a better rate? ones that anyone can join, not a workplace scheme. I've checked topcashback and jamdoughnut but those are lower.

Very odd behaviour from Uber ticketing this morning. The app still shows the 10% promotion as applying for me as an Uber One member, but the T&C text still says only valid through 31 March. The whole purchase flow behaves as if the 10% will apply. Then after purchasing (and my card being charged!), a red error message popped up saying “the promotion you applied is no longer available”, and my tickets are not showing in the app nor email (nor a receipt).

I’ve tapped in with contactless for this morning’s journey (as I’m not risking a second ticket purchase from Uber), and if the pending charge from Uber on my card doesn’t go away I will need to seek a refund. Luckily I’ve found the Omio customer service to be very helpful in the past.

But I would steer clear of attempting to buy Uber tickets for now!

There are regular glitches in their systems. In the last couple of days there was a time when the only fares it offered me were using the coach! No rail fares. Then a bit later they partially came back - but only coach cards could be selected - no railcards! Card payments were failing repeatedly for a period early this morning - just spinning after the 3D auth step. I checked the T&Cs then and they said the offer expired at the end of June.

And I'm still amused how many months it's taking them to fix the message when you buy a ticket from A to B which it decides to split at C, telling you that you must use a train that stops at B (your destination) instead of the true split point C. Then while you're making the journey you get spammed with a notification prompting you to book a taxi to C, the split point, even though it knows you are already on the train to there!

I wish Uber would just quit with all these seperate gift cards and the 'Uber Money' and 'Uber Cash' nonsense.

If you buy a gift card from them, you would expect it to be used on any service Uber offers, including rail fares.

I had this issue with a coach journey recently - National Express, once a reputable company, drip-feeds in a £1 booking fee if you're not registered and logged in, so I thought "maybe I'll just book it on Uber with no booking fee". And fair enough, there was no booking fee, but the fare was a pound dearer.

My other complaints about Uber are that I can't use it to buy weekly seasons, London boundary fares or (other than with great difficulty by substituting a named station) Zones Uxy fares. This puts me off putting a lot of money onto an Uber gift card as there are so few tickets I'd want that I can buy from them, particularly outside the football season.

Discounts very good, though.

In the breakdown for example it is saying £8.80 then 2.59 discount. That it badly coded at best and misleading at worst as many people wouldn't know the normal cost I guess.

Thank you. How strange. To summarise:
- you get offered (correctly) a £6.30 Anytime Day Return
- when you get to the payment page the ticket price has myteriously inflated to £8.80 and a £2.50 discount has been applied, getting you back to £6.30

Is that correct?
