ECML disruption - broken down train near York (21/02)

Hi

We’ve broken down just outside York (Peterborough to Edinburgh train). Apparently Thunderbird is coming to rescue us. Any ideas as to where it’s coming from and how long this is likely to take?

You'll want to look for a 1Z99 on a signal map site (like Traksy), 1Z99 is the usual headcode used for rescue locomotives.
Took a quick look around and couldn't find one near you.

They're sending the one from Newark. 1Z99 is currently around the Retford area.

Thanks - forgive my ignorance but as it’s coming from South does that mean we’ll be dragged back to Doncaster or will we be pushed to York?

I can't answer that. Sorry. However, those effecting this will have a contingency plan in place. Listen out for any on-train announcements.

1Z99 appears to have been routed via Knottingley to avoid the queue of trains stuck at Hambleton.

Quite likely given the position of your train that 1Z99 will back onto the front of your train at Colton Jn and then drag forward to York. But that's just a guess

1Z99 now approaching Milford Jn so not too far away, but appreciate it has already been a long time stuck and it will still take time even after the rescue is on scene.

That rather depends on what the fault is.

From the train….2.45 hours now. People have been generally very calm; obviously buffet now out of food and drink. No sign of staff - though I can see there’s nothing they can really do. I think once we get to 3 hours moods will change…

Is it a class 800 or class 801? If it is a class 800 they could run it on diesel

801203. But is it actually a fault that could be fixed by running on diesel?

The 801s do have one engine that can be used for traction power in emergency use.

As it's been an extended wait, the emergency water bottle supply on board should be handed out now, or be handed out very shortly. Thankfully, a failure like this one is quite rare with the Azuma fleet (more often with the 91 fleet), I am sure Hitachi is working as fast as they can to figure a suitable solution out.

Not a great day at York, also saw 1S12 (12:19 to Edinburgh) cancelled (RTT reporting "problem with the on-board safety systems (M0)") and people seemingly moved onto 1S14 an hour later.

Exactly…if anyone can make sense of train movements re the evacuation, I.e when this might happen etc, your insights will be greatly appreciated

Newark Thunderbird 1Z99 has now released from its wait at Holgate Sidings into Platform 10 at York.

Edit: It has now gone back into Holgate Sidings...

Looks like 1S11 is now slowly moving from Hambleton Jn towards you (1S09), it can't go anywhere apart from towards you now without reversing so that might be a source of hope?

Edit: Looks like 1Z99 has also turned around in York p10, but also subsequently disappeared off Traksy so who knows

Ah, probably just swapping lines then. That doesn't sound hopeful if they're still turning alot of trains back...

I would keep tabs on 5S12 (801205) as the potential unit for train-train evacuation. It was meant to be on the 12.19 York to Edinburgh, however, arrived in York from Holgate Sidings and was then cancelled because of the disruption. It's currently just sat in York Platform 11.

A crew member for this service was stuck on 1S11. When it was apparent it wasn't getting past anytime soon, 1S12 was cancelled.

Wonder if its moved in time for 1V62 Edi to Exter to go the normal route as i assume its about to divert via Leeds.
