Got an email through today, and I’ve finally been invited to my DMI. Anyone got any tips?
Research about the company, as a whole and your local depot. Local - tractions, routes, any answers that you can relate to through experience (i.e. I work through Preston every workday in my current role as a conductor, so I knew quite a bit about the station and its workings). Whole company - learn plenty of information from the 'about us' webpage (company plan, vision and values, etc).
Make sure you're detailed with your answers, go in with examples that you can use, as always, use the STAR method.
I'll always say, be honest too. If you've got a really good example, but it highlights an error you made (as long as it is not safety critical) use it but show how you have learnt and developed from it. Nobody is perfect, and I used an example or two where I had a lack of knowledge/made a mistake. It helps bring across your personality too.
