One morning peak run and a load of ECS miles for a new pairing this morning. 5732 last worked 10 days ago on the 5th.

Update (4:37pm): Remaining 4 units are out this evening. Pay particular attention to the Reading diagrams, it looks like 5712+5717 will spend the night at Reading.

Update (4:44pm): 5712+5717's first turn, 2V47 1637 London Waterloo to London Waterloo, has been cancelled due to a problem with the traction equipment (MD).

Just for the record, according to journeycheck, 2J92 started from Hampton Court today due to the cancellation of 2J16 as a result of the earlier failure of 701009

07:52 Surbiton to London Waterloo due 08:24 was started from Hampton Court.
It will call additionally at Thames Ditton and Berrylands.
This is due to the train making extra stops because a train was cancelled.
Will be formed of 8 coaches instead of 10.

5716+5727 allocated
1707 Waterloo to Waterloo,
1843/2042/2242 Waterloo to Shepperton (1843 via Richmond).

I think the 455s have done all the metro routes for the year apart from Staines to Windsor and Strawberry Hill Jn to Shacklegate Jn. And possibly Woking to Guildford.

5Y29 is an ECS into Clapham Yard rather than Wimbledon.

Tuesday 30th: 701012 had a door fault so 1230 Kingston rounder was cancelled. 5715+5716 have turned out from Wimbledon for the 1357 Kingston.
Amazing to see how much work the 455s are still doing right at the end. With the 701s not fully settled yet, they’re once again proving how reliable and flexible they’ve been over the years. A very fitting final chapter for such a solid suburban workhorse.

Very surprised to see them bring out two 455s just to do one single short passenger working before going back to the depot. That is a very odd diagram. They do an ECS from the depot to Surbiton then one single passenger working from Surbiton to Waterloo and then do an ECS from Waterloo back to the depot.

It's an invaluable PIXC-buster service. If there's limited 701 availability, better to put two 455s on this diagram vs have them on another diagram with a larger number of passenger service.

I thought I'd had my last ride on a 455, nice to see it turn up this morning.

Passengers in excess of capacity..
Not always as straightforward as it sounds of course, as IIRC a train could be loaded to something like 130% in relation to seats I believe, before PIXC was triggered, and the DfT (in my time) required the TOC to look at ways to lengthen trains/increase seating capacity. Something like that AFAIR, but will stand corrected.

5716/5727 are allocated to the 2V45/2C55/2C66 diagram, although today they are also allocated to the rest of that diagram (2C69/2C80) whereas in previous days they've always been swapped for a 701 following 2C66s arrival at Waterloo

The diagram starting with 5V49 and 2V49 has been allocated 5721/5732, meaning all remaining 455 pairs will be out this evening!

It’s genuinely impressive how much mileage the 455s are still clocking up this late in their careers. With the 701s still having the odd availability or reliability issue, the flexibility of the 455 fleet really stands out once again. Odd diagrams aside, they’re clearly being used very tactically to plug gaps and protect peak services, which says a lot about how well they still fit the metro role.

Frankly they are far better at the metro role than class 450s that are currently subbing in on some metro diagrams (often with the consequence of extended dwell times and compounding delays).

I’ve asked this on another group but i really want to go around and have a look at the 455s in the scrap yard when they get scrapped. Does anyone know where the rest will be scrapped in as Newport is a no for them

Does it actually matter where they go, I don’t think any reputable scrapper would let you in to ‘have a look’… The current scrapping location is Wards of Ilkeston. Units are moved via Litchurch Lane, Derby, it’s all been thoroughly discussed in the 455/458 withdrawal thread in the traction sub-forum.
