So here we are, for the benefit of everyone who may want to plan a final ride or spot next week, confirmed final diagrams on the last two days (already confirmed by people upthread but just for ease of reference here).

The last planned day of operation is next Tuesday 23/12/2025. There will be six units kept as hot spares for approx two months afterwards ready to step in where needed however no further working is currently anticipated to be on a planned basis.

On that note, I am sure selected other forum members will join me in saying a big thank you to everyone for their continued support over the years, and a fantastic job well done by the whole Wimbledon team.

Looks like 5729 could be on the farewell tour
That's just the blinds set as special. I doubt it would be on the tour as it hasn't been prepared for it like the ones at Bournemouth have been. If a Wimbledon 455 is on the tour I bet it will be 5870 as that was the one sent down to Bournemouth to pick up one of the tour units from there.

Something from my own archive involving 455's and an associated stock replacement plan of earlier times. 5804 brand new, 'as delivered', Feb '83. It can speak for itself!

A nice sunny morning for a trip down to Shepperton and one last ride on the 455. The diagram as posted previously (evens xx42 from Waterloo, odds xx41 from Shepperton) is running, though a couple of mins behind.

Many thanks to those who've provided the information on these workings.

Lovely photo. Look at the clean lines of the unit to the right - not an EPB in sight !.

I cannot recall, was there a farewell tour back when the 455s took over ?.

Also are there more bushes there now, seemed much different on my last visit to the outside. My first visit would have been late 70s chasing de-icing units (re-used pre 4-SUB units I suspect) - doubt I was on the outside then.

SUB farewell tour? Be buggxxxd if I can remember now? You'd need to look in to something like the SEG site or 4Sub Association I would suggest. It was a job (to me and my mates) back then. When dealing with such matters, things/events, that the enthusiast may deem worth remembering in todays world, for many of us just passed in to history, in the same way (for many I would guess) involved professionally today, in relation to 455 to 701 transition, will soon forget the details as other matters will take their attention (job wise).

As for VZ (ie Strawberry Hill) I would guess far more bushes etc have been left to grow in recent times, be it because lack of (£) to deal with same or other 'on trend' agenda's suggesting some natural lineside features should be allowed to grow (out of hand in some areas). I am reminded of leaf fall season.....say no more!

By way of an example, a couple of 2 SAP's I photographed passing Wimbledon East depot on the DMSL in my time, taken from within depot limits (I was there on official business). From what I have been told, I doubt this vista would be possible today?

It's not; it's patently obvious from passing trains that the lineside between the running lines and the depot is a mass of buddleia.

...which has scuppered any attempt to photograph 455s in the depot roads from passing trains for a few years now.

Yes, it's very overgrown.

The last planned day of operation is next Tuesday 23/12/2025. There will be six units kept as hot spares for approx two months afterwards ready to step in where needed however no further working is currently anticipated to be on a planned basis.

How likely are they to be out after next Tuesday? Is the idea to not use them unless it's an absolute emergency, or will they still be out regularly, just without fixed diagrams?

Many thanks for the diagrams!

They will only be used afterwards subject to ad hoc requirement, but personally I don't envisage any to be out before 5th Jan, as stock requirement during the holidays is much reduced. Their most likely purpose is still to cover 701 shortages, so if more of them get made available during that time 455s will less likely be required post NYD.

They should be out on Tuesday bar some disastrous misfortune, even possibly covering the odd 701 as the requirement of 32 is tricky to meet when you only have 32 authorised for service, especially as 1009 may be out for a few days still due to rectification work for an HRD.

What is a HRD?

Cant say I've heard that one before
Sorry High Risk Defect. They are more serious faults which will require additional approval prior to being released back into traffic.

For much of the day Sheeprton services were running via Twickenham to serve the rugby traffic, so it was their last day on the Windsor Lines as well as via Kingston

A couple of filming ideas which I've not been able to carry out yet:
• Place a camera in-front the destination blind, preferably at night with the backlight turned on, and film it scrolling through all the destinations. Does it have an end or is it a continuous loop of material? Both blinds desired, but offside blind (with headcodes) preferred.
• Place a camera behind the sandbox refill hopper on a rainy day & watch the sand get consumed. Most of the hoppers have a black stickers obscuring the view inside, but a couple don't. I hope any preserved specimens will have this sticker removed.

The destination/via blinds do have a beginning and end. They’re not a continuous loop.
