Off-topic but I have wondered what would happen to that very early arrival at Paddington once (if) the 230s are fully signed off for the Greenford branch. It has a lot of staff (across various companies!) on it normally, so I imagine it wouldn't be canned and run back ECS or start another branch off or a 387 would be used instead.
If the 230 does enter service, wasn't the plan for the 165 to be kept spare all day? If that's the case I'd assume it would still run those Paddington services.

Well it is a big if for the 230s according to the recent thread, but I don't think GWR can afford a 165 being "spare".

The service can be worked by a 387 quite easily

The plan originally was definitely for a 165 to be spare. It isn’t ideal but also it’s no more requirement than there is now.

Another 165 failure at Slough this morning. The 0850 Windsor service was failed at Slough and headed off to Reading, hopefully a replacement was available.

It looks like GWR have planned to run a 165 in the paths of some of the cancelled XC services this afternoon.

1J18 1552 Reading to Basingstoke
1Z62 1648 Basingstoke to Oxford
1Z24 1817 Oxford to Basingstoke
1J74 1950 Basingstoke to Reading

I do not know whether this will actually come to pass, but currently 165121 is allocated to work vice 387 on a Reading - Newbury diagram which includes a trip to Paddington.

Presumably this is using the unit freed up by the Greenford service not operating this week.

That's interesting, there was a cancellation at Newbury yesterday, the 13:5X to Paddington. A Didcot was binned in the morning from Slough as well.

Should make it to Paddington…

Swaps back to a 387 with the 1510 Reading Newbury, the Turbo goes off to Oxford to play up there for the afternoon.

Just a few morning struggles with 387s today so having the extra Turbo with no Greenford this week has helped. 387s could then concentrate on minimising short forms into Paddington off Didcots.

165113 will be operating 1K26 1906 Pad-Bedwyn and return this evening for some reason
A 80x did strike a tree near Neath today and terminated at cardiff central, presumably this and other storm related issues has put units in the wrong place.

1A80 was running 60 late, due to the incident at Starcross today, 165113 did 1K26 / 1K35 to free up a 800 to shuffle and rebalanced the IET Fleet for End of service this evening.

It's rare to have a spare turbo, but with the North Downs half closed, it was rude not to take the opertunity to get RT starts from PAD and rebalanced the fleet.

Cancelled
IET 802012 failed at CDF so 165127 has been drafted to operate the Cardiff-Taunton services:

Will be surprised if it makes it to Plymouth. Expect a further set swap back to 800 during the evening.

2C87 has been pathed from Bristol as an 80X so expect 165127 to terminate there.

Its showing as 165127 to Exeter only, so presumably it'll get cancelled there unless they run an 80x down to swap it with.

Thank you to whoever said about putting a specific unit number into RTT, I have now finally managed to see 165102 in Cardiff today after seeing where it would be-all class 165s and 166s seen

18:00 Oxford to London Paddington due 18:54
19:23 London Paddington to Oxford due 20:18
21:02 Oxford to London Paddington due 21:54
Will be formed of 2 coaches instead of 5. First class not available. Catering is not available. There are no reservations on this service.

No 800 available, kinda annoying I was driving that diagram yesterday, would have preferred a turbo as at least all the engines would have been working unlike the 800 I had

Would that be the first time a 165 has made it to Plymouth if it does? I know 166221 has made it there but I don't recall a 165 going there.

It does seem like it will be working the diagram all day though. "5C31 2214 Taunton to Stoke Gifford" has now become VST 5C31 to Exeter TMD.

165129 operated the 00:34 Paddington to Reading this morning due to driver not signing 387s for the route.

That wasn’t the reason, there was a lot of work uncovered yesterday, the turbo that comes off the Greenford had to go back to Reading anyway and it saved them cutting another late night service

A couple of off the beaten track turbo ECS moves are planned for Saturday evening between Reading and Guildford via Basingstoke and Woking
