Usually it will be you come in do in person tests, they take you out in the company car with you driving and then an interview.
So I would suggest getting familiar with some of the roads and speeds around the depot if you're able to.

This same position re-opened last week, I believe, and closed within a few days. I applied last Saturday (13th). Have passed both online assessments and have received an email last Monday to say that my application is under review with hiring manager.

I'd like to know if anyone has much information about the tram driving recruitment process, specifically for Croydon tramlink. Also, how to get your application in quickly enough, as the adverts seem to close after only a day in some cases.

The applications usually close quickly due to reaching the desired level of applications. For example they want 500 applicants (I've made this number up). If this is reached within 1 day or 5 days it will then close. This is due to wanting people to start fairly soon so if leave it open too long it's too difficult to sort through. I would sign up for the alerts and check fairly regularly so that you are able to apply straight away. If you've seen the application before maybe have a separate document with ready to go answers that you recall to speed up the application process.
It's an online application and then Opc tests done in house at the depot. These are to test concentration etc and don't go against your lives.
You are taken out in the company vehicle so can be observed how you drive (please don't speed basically lol) and a interview.

Just been invited for assessment centre for OPC tests. They attached some practice materials for two tests. One is called RAAT Rules Acquistion Aptitude Test, which tests retention of information regarding rules and a multiple choice test. And then a SCAAT test, much like the Bourdon Dot test but with letters, rising in difficulty. They encourage the ise of practice materials and mentioned that they would ask you on the day whether you had used them. Hope that helps and will post more of my experience as it comes..

I have the assessment on Monday as well. At the bottom of the email that invites you to book a slot there are two attachments with practice materials for SCAAT and RAAT.
You could also purchase extra materials from the OPC website itself, which I did today. Each pack (SCAAT and RAAT) consisting of full tests and answer sheets costs between £7.49-£8.99. There are a range of tests to purchase, so look out for the right title.
Another alternative is to use printed text (i.e a newspaper) to search for specific letters (this will make sense when you read the instructions for the SCAAT test).
However you choose to prepare, im sure your preparation will pay off on Monday. Wishing you success and should see you Monday. Going to do more practise now...
Hi all, I’ve got an assessment coming up soon as well. Does anyone know is it just the SCAAT, RAAT test and driving assessment or is there more. Additionally does anyone know if this assessment centre counts towards our two lives for train driver assessments in the worst case scenario of being unsuccessful ?

I’ve also got my assessment on Monday. Im interested to know the pass mark for the RAAT and SCAAT. For the SCAAT I’ve been told it’s 8 lines.
RAAT and SCAAT day 1 then if we’re successful they’ll invite us back for a driver assessment and interview a few days later. I believe training starts late February !

If you’ve passed OPC previously for a different company and passed your Train Driver Tests/DMI these won’t count towards any tests for the Tram Driver role?

I can confirm that the train tests do not count towards your Tram assessment. The OPC hold a range of tests specific to different roles. I have recently passed the train driver assessments with SE, and the Tram tests are similar (according to practice material sent by First Group from OPC) fewer in number and under different names. Tram assessments don't affect your lives either and DMI for trainee train driver doesnt count towards Tram. You will still attend First Group's interview. So feel free to excel in both.
I have found some useful questions from How 2 Become for Tram driver regarding the interview questions, which can guide you on how to showcase your own personal experience and skills on questions that are likely to come up in the interview. It costs £3.99 for 30 questions and sample answers that guide you throigh STAR method. It is meant for one to compose their own answers according to their own experience.Echomike01

I’ve applied for the trainee tram driver job at Croydon. (I applied on the 24/01/2026). I’ve completed two assessments. One was a SJT and the other was looking at data. I received emails to say that I passed both.
I just want a bit of advice going forward. What is recruitment like with Croydon tram link? Is it like the trains, where you get put in talent pools and could potentially wait up to 18th months?

I applied back in December and I have my assessment day today. If I pass this assessment, I will have an interview this week and start date, if successful is 23rd February.
My hubbie has applied for the role also same as you and has just passed the two assessments.
Wondering if he will also be put on same start date, if successful. I know they are running to a compressed timeline at the moment,.so you may have gotten in at a good time in terms of turnaround.
Hope you hear something soon.

Well done to anyone who sat the assessment today. Unfortunately 24 out of the 34 questions on the RAAT wasn’t enough to secure a pass, perhaps I got too many omissions but it was a good experience overall ! Back to lorry driving for me
Sorry to hear that man, hopefully reapply in the future and I’m sure you’ll do it. How was the SCAAT. Did they use letters numbers or symbols for it ?
sorry to hear you didn't get through if you apply again i'm sure you'll do better, do you know what the "pass" mark was by any chance and how long did you get for the test, did you just miss a few out or you didn't finish all the questions, if i right think the RAAT is just reading paragraph and you get multiple choice questions on that, answers are in the paragraph but they use confusing language in the answers to catch you out from what i've read from others.
