The original A340s seemed to be underpowered, as they took much longer to get to their cruising height. When they regularly flew from Heathrow over my house, they always were a fair bit lower than other planes, including the A330s, which were the same plane but with two engines. Wags would say that they used the curvature of the earth to gain height. The 500 and 600 series had a better rate of climb. The most memorable experience has to be an A340-300, fully loaded for a 12 hour flight from Santiago to Wellington. That thing took forever to get off the ground

Several smaller aircraft types on private flights.
Yes, they only ever built ten and they only lasted 20 years in service - but I believe at least half of them have been preserved. The Mercure must be the rarest type I've been on
If you were a Brit and missed the era of scheduled 707s British Airtours had some hand me downs they flew as late as the early 1980s (me, Gatwick to Tangier). My first flight, BEA Rapide from the Scillies. Now 1,100 flights and sixty years later my last flight a Avianca A320 from Bogota to Medellin. Next week, Copa 738 Medellin to Panama, KLM 78-10 Panama to Amsterdam, KLM E190 Amsterdam to London City. Not many mentions of Boeing 707s, I was lucky enough to do two Gatwick - Paphos return trips with Cyprus Airways in the late 1980s, also did a return to Italy in the 1960s, I was only 10 so I'm not sure but it was either by Societa Aerea Mediterranea DC3 or DC6, luxury of the lot was an early 2000s transfer from Malta to Gozo by Mil Mi8 helicopter
