So is idea to not dazzle oncomers at night presumably?
I'm a sad Centric I've been doing totally the opposite thing to the right.
Doesn’t matter what setting they are on, if you’re in a 387 or a 165 coming the other way you’re getting dazzled

Also New Street IIRCThe Chester station area is also without AWS today.
Many major stations have no AWS within the immediate station area, traditionally due to the complicated track layouts and generally low speeds. Also New Street IIRC
Sheffield is another example. Many major stations have no AWS within the immediate station area, traditionally due to the complicated track layouts and generally low speeds.
It doesn't. TPWS is 'invisible' until an intervention occurs either due to overspeed or passing a Red.
It also doesn’t give you any indications unless you’ve already tripped it, or where the system is defective/isolated.
I think the origin intention when TPWS was being developed was that AWS would be subsumed into it from an operational perspective, and the AWS name would then be discontinued. It's for these reasons I've always found it very strange that it's called Train Protection & Warning System. Does the 'Warning' part simply refer to the visual/audible alert once it's activated?
It's partly down to TPWS and AWS being connected to each other, (i.e. the TPWS Break Demand light is lit by intervention from both TPWS itself and AWS.)
The sound coming from my stomach is the only audible break demand I needIs that when the TPWS insists that a driver takes his PNB?

AWS also gives a visual clue (the 'sunflower') of whether the previous signal was green or a cautionary aspect, in most circumstances.

True enough... but we've all been there when it's sunflowered for a speed restriction AFTER a green ping / bell... then thought: "oh bugger... WAS it green?"
