TCT - Ticket Check Tests. Managed to get to about 30/31. Am rather sure I got them all right (days, stn 1, stn 2, peak/offpeak, duscount applied or not) but am wondering if 30 will be enough? Am aware for a 10min test not really expected to finish the lot (rather like the SCAAT tests pages) but wondering what a decent acore would be? Thanks
I only did 25 and passed so looks like you’re good as long as you were accurate. Good Luck!

Morning all.

Does anyone know if the number of Conductors at TFW will have to increase at each depot for when Sundays become part of the 4 day working week come May 2025?

Likely quite some which would explain the latest TP exercise for both Valleys and Main at CDF

Hopefully you hear soon, have you had any update from TFW?

No I’ve emailed numerous times with no update on positions. I’ve heard a lot about trainees starting, yet no start dates for qualified. I can’t see a start date now it’s been 15 months, it will probably just expire.
It’s seems you have a better chance if you are a trainee.

Think if you’re willing to do the course you can go in as a Trainee into TFW. I’m with a TOC currently and waiting for a Trainee Course.

Hi all, I’ve passed all my online tests and have been invited to the assessment day consisting of written communication test, group activity, customer service roleplay and interview. Has anyone here say this assessment day and if so what was it like? Any tips or advice? Thanks in advance!

Hi Jakem,

I went for the same Wednesday just gone. They make you feel at ease which was excellent!! The key thing is to be yourself.

The group exercise you need to make sure you’re showing teamwork such as getting people involved if they are quiet and contributing to the group.
My one was groups of passengers that we needed to prioritise on who we would help first and give reasons etc.

The role play just study everything they put in front of you and remember the key phrases that it tells you to say.
They are looking to make sure you are friendly in your responses etc.

The interview, just do as much research about TFW as you can and have sample answers for questions such as: Can you tell me about a time you’ve given excellent Customer Service?
Most of the questions on my interview were safety related, so put safety at the forefront of your answers.

I am lucky, I got told I passed the interview 2 days after and now in the talent pool for 2 years!

I hope this helps! Good luck!

Thank you so much!

Do they ask questions in interview such as what do you know about TFW? Im doing my research but just wanted to know if I need to know specific routes and information about TFW as a company for interview?

I will revise my application answers and get a list of answers in my head for competency based questions.

Well done on passing this stage I am super nervous! I have my assessment day on 3rd Sept.

(I may come back with more questions soon haha)

No problem!!

Main thing I noted is when TFW came about and when the rail side took over. They didn’t ask specifics.

I was nervous too, but the interview panel were really friendly and want the best out of you. Main thing they said is you aren’t against the other candidates, you’re all in with a shot if you pass which was reassuring.

Thanks, I’m absolutely made up, just a waiting game now.

When did you apply for this? I just applied in the latest round and it just says shortlisting. Wondering if that’s normal or if I’m just unsuccessful

Does anyone know how long you could be waiting in the talent pool for Chester? Is it just the first part of training you can't have holidays? Excited to start now!

Up to 2 years. You can't take holidays during the classroom based part if the course (the first 3 months) although there is a week of leave planned into the course that everybody takes. Throughout the route learning phase (last 3 months ish) you can take leave usually as you're kind of working your own hours.

Looks like we both made it then! I’m in the talent pool for Chester too! I’m sceptical of booking any holidays now just incase it gets in the way of a start date!!

I’m not sure on the last Chester intake, but I know some have waited over 12 months for Chester. Other depots seem to move quicker depending on the size.

Hi mate,

Some of the main ones I remember are:

-Tell me about a time in your current/previous employment when you’ve had to follow a strict set of rules and procedures?

-Can you tell me about a time you spotted a colleague doing something potentially dangerous and how did you deal with it?

-Can you tell me how you’d deal with a difficult situation on board the train?
And how would you keep the control
office informed with potential potential distractions arising from passengers or the situation?

From what I’ve gathered they want you to respond calmly and that you’ll follow all procedures set out in your training to ensure the safety and comfort of everybody etc.

Having variety of potential questions give you the best chance at the final interview, and obviously your questions could be completely different to mine.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Hi everyone,

Has anyone heard if there are anymore courses planned yet for late this year/early next year at all? I've been in the talent pool now for 16 months. Hopefully a course will be assigned to me over the next 8 months.

All the best

I’m starting my course for Rhymney in less than 2 weeks. I was in the talent pool for about 10-11 months, would have been sooner but I had a holiday already booked. I know the valley line courses are pretty quick compared the mainline ones so hopefully soon you’ll hear from them

I didn’t encounter any of those questions; most of mine were competency-based. During the interview, my interviewer referred to his sheets, which seemed to have different sets of questions labeled as A or B. It appeared that different questions were highlighted for him to ask various candidates.

Thanks for you reply. Hope you enjoy the course.

I’m waiting on Carmarthen.

All the best.

What depot are you waiting for? I’m the same 16 months now, we probably went at the same time for the interview at Chester. You hear stuff all the time so you’re not sure what to believe. The latest was some went for the interviews 2 weeks ago and were told dates could be between January and March. I was never told any dates at mine.
I did hear some people in the pool have experienced it expiring for them after 2 years.

Have you emailed recruitment? I know someone who waited around 4 months and started this year. I've heard from different people that they need more conductors for Chester soon.

I’m waiting on the Carmarthen depot.

They’ve not recruited for this depot since I applied. Keeping hopeful for a course.
