Calmed down quite a lot here, but still pretty gusty every now and again.

It's been making my window and door rattle all day. Managed to blow a poster off the wall as well.
The lights have been flickering quite a bit over the past half hour or so.

Sat between Johnstone and Milliken Park for about 25 mins with lights going on and off, thought oh oh here we go, visions of sitting in the train for hours, so just grateful to be back at all. Nothing except Ayrshire and East Kilbride services operating out of central

Hope everyones alright!
I know im only in leeds but im at the top of a tall building so its windy here. Died down alot now lets hope that is the story for all the country, which is the point to that anicdote.

If wires come down, excluding wind making it dangerous, how long does it take to put em back up?

Virgin's plan for tomorrow:

04:28 Glasgow Central - London Euston will start at Preston
07:37 Glasgow Central - London Euston will be formed with less carriages than usual and is expected to be very busy. Customers may wish to use an alternative service.
08:00 Glasgow Central - London Euston will start at Carlisle

So will the 0737 be a Voyager?

I imagine thats what i means i cannot see any other reason, why would they take carriges out of a 390? Probably overhead wire issues.

Think theres a spare voyager at Glasgow usually so may well be. Wondering also if they may transfer customers to a pendo at preston? Other casualties wil doubtless be the highland chiefton in the morning and maybe a few Scotrail expresses with stock being in the wrom place. We'll no doubt also see Manchesters hit too again due to stock but my experiences of TPE early morning south bound workings is not good anyway so not many will notice.

I'm not optimistic about that one. The OHL have been brought down near Partick, and I'd guess that conditions are still too bad to allow repairs to start.

I would not be hoping for much to run before noon tomorrow if even then (but you never know).

Tomorrow will definitely be a day to go online and check before leaving home.

Baws :(

Lines seem to be reopening to traffic according to National Rail:

ScotRail services
With the exception of the lines listed below, ScotRail services are being withdrawn from all routes until further notice, with no replacement transport provided. Customers are advised not to attempt to travel, or should make alternative travel arrangements (many roads are also blocked by fallen trees and power lines, so road transport will also be disrupted):
ScotRail services are running on the following routes, but are subject to alterations and delays:
Edinburgh - North Berwick
Edinburgh - Bathgate
Glasgow Central - Largs / Ardrossan Harbour
Glasgow Central - Ayr
Edinburgh - Inverkeithing
Motherwell - Anderston via Glasgow Central (Low Level)
Glasgow Central - Motherwell via Uddingston (dep. Glasgow at 15 minutes past each hour)
Motherwell - Glasgow Central via Uddingston (dep. Motherwell at 20 minutes past each hour)
Glasgow Central - Motherwell via Hamilton (dep. Glasgow at 45 minutes past each hour)
Motherwell - Glasgow Central via Hamilton (dep. Motherwell at 50 minutes past each hour)
Glasgow Central - East Kilbride
Glasgow Queen Street - Edinburgh

I have a feeling that will probably be it for tonight, with the focus elsewhere being on trying to get as many lines as possible checked and as much stock as possible moved to where it needs to be for tomorrow morning.

But (according to the BBC) "Network Rail, which looks after the system's cabling and tracks, said the disruption would continue into Tuesday."

Some differing info on ScotRail site, Argyle line only operating between Newton and Motherwell via Hamilton. Always difficult to know which source is correct.

I see from National rail the down Chieftain has been cancelled after Edinburgh, and tonight’s up sleeper from Inverness has also been cancelled.

In such an obvious situation due to the weather, what is the position for Scotrail regarding onward passengers, for example on national rail website there’s a note
‘All ScotRail Sleeper services (from Scotland and from London) are cancelled on Monday 23 May. Customers should make alternative travel arrangements.’

I mean some people may have check out of hotels (i.e. Fort William) or be miles from there own home, you can just imagine the shear panic of some people.
ScotRail are pulling out all the stops on this one
The Fort William and Inverness sleepers have been setup as hotels (I'm just waiting on a confirmation on the Aberdeen sleeper)
Passengers will then be offered the choice of travelling on the first available service in the morning or a flight
Obviously on the Fort William this presents a challenge (so presumably rail to Glasgow, then VT to Euston)
Passengers in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and London will be put up in local hotels
Passengers will also be entitled to the normal compensation rate
As none of the sleepers are running, there are no issues over sets being in the wrong place, it only means they are now one cycle day behind

The flight could be a bit risky if they shut Scottish airspace in the morning. Maybe another busy day on the 0540 tomorrow morning. Chieftain definately won't go. As I said on another set I wonder if the 0540 will if east coast are short of sets will the run it or the 0545?

I think the question on everyone's mind is... why could they not be like this during the snow? That said, it looks like they've learned their lesson. It's been much easier to get information (although there are still some mixed messages floating around), and from what I've heard there have been plenty of staff around.

As for tomorrow... no word yet, but the winds are expected to die down tonight so we could see quite a number of services back up and running. But the advice seems to be not to plan to travel tomorrow if you can avoid it.

Well I picked a great week to spend in Glasgow, didn't i? :)

Came up from South Yorkshire today and made it through to Glasgow but was thwarted in my attempts to do the Lanark and Balloch branches, so wisely decided to give it up as a bad job and have spent most of the day exploring Glasgow's many Wetherspoons.

I've an Advance purchase ticket booked on the 0821 to Oban tomorrow, back on the 1811. I wonder what my chances are of being able to use it?

Seems Mother Nature has stopped farting now.

Not further south, it hasn't!

Just looked at the progress for the 18:30 service from Edinburgh to Kings Cross. Left Edinburgh 18 minutes late. Was 33 minutes late by the time it left Newcastle, and then somehow managed to get as much as 1hr 9minutes late once it left Durham - might be unrelated, or are there problems on the ECML with the high winds around the North East?

(Oh, and has anybody seen the For Sale sign that was in my front garden?)

And yet somehow, every single road cone I saw was upright. You can blow people away, you can blow garden selling signs away, but you can't blow road cones away.

Not sure they're short of sets, they may well have too many!

I've had 2 very 'hairy' moments in the wind today onboard, one was very concerning.

It seems our pessimism was misplaced.

Most services will be running in Scotland today, with the exception of the Wemyes Bay and Dalmuir Singer services, and also a warning about possible morning disruption in the North of Scotland. Although there is a standing warning about checking individual services before heading off.

Given the mess last night, it looks like a pretty impressive recovery. I suspect some folks lost a bit of sleep last night!

Yep, a lot more trains in the right place than expected.

On east coast the 0655 starts Newcastle.
The chieftain at Perth and 0755 ex Aberdeen at Dundee.

So not bad from East Coast

The biggest casualty seems to be the Argyle Line, with a reduced service running into high level. Nothing via Yoker or out to Port Glasgow.

They are saying the outsanding damage is "very severe" so can probably expect disruption on those lines all day.

With a reported 35 OHL faults last night, the biggest surprise is that there seem to only be 2 outstanding failures though. I guess lessons have been learned and put into practice after the snow problems.

OFFTOPIC: One of the trees behind my house that was looking a bit precarious after last winter has snapped in half...
