Best of luck.Just got a mail asking me to log onto the GTR portal and book myself in for the assessment day. Check your mails!
There’s only January coursesJanuary and February courses filled with mainly coastal places
Guessing I’ll receive the standard email all places allocated soon. There’s a February course I can assure you! I know someone on it
When did you apply? Looks like we applied around the same date, I haven't heard anything as of yet.Just got a mail asking me to log onto the GTR portal and book myself in for the assessment day. Check your mails!
If I remember correctly I applied the same day the ad was uploaded. Did you apply for Barnham too? Maybe it's depot by depot? When did you apply? Looks like we applied around the same date, I haven't heard anything as of yet.
I wonder if they're doing as first come, first serve - or highest scoring candidates first.

Congratulations! I certainly wouldn't resign from your job yet.Happy New Year everyone! I have passed the recruitment process with GTR for a trainee train driver position with Southern.
This was back in October 2023. I was told by email that I would be in a pool waiting for the next available course and they would keep me updated
with regular monthly emails.
Well....I haven't received any email yet. Anyone else waiting for a training course starting soon? Did you receive updates? I am considering resigning my job hoping to get the call this month?
Would anyone be willing to share their experience please? I am so eager to start and worried to be left in the pool for years.
Thanks.
Thank you! Congratulations to you too.Yes I applied for Barnham too the day the ad went out. Strange

Looking at how things are currently going, I don't think you'll be on a course until at least Q4 2024/2025. But you've done the hard bit now, so sit tight!
That is weird. I've honestly no idea why you haven't been invited. Could maybe be like you say but equally well it could have been by chance I feel.Yes I applied for Barnham too the day the ad went out. Strange

I’ve been waiting for Cricklewood since early last year. Don’t resign from your job till you get a contract with a start date!Happy New Year everyone! I have passed the recruitment process with GTR for a trainee train driver position with Southern.

What days did they have available for booking? That is weird. I've honestly no idea why you haven't been invited. Could maybe be like you say but equally well it could have been by chance I feel.
Cheers mate, just looking for an idea as to how much notice they're giving people.I was offered the 17th and the 24th. I'm not sure if these are the dates they offer everyone though. If your application is still in progress I'd just try to sit tight and wait for a little bit longer! I'm sure you'll get invited eventually.
I've heard of ~ 1 months notice before but also heard of roughly a week's notice but can't remember where I read that. I was wondering the same thing as you a few months ago and started to practice bit by bit so that I'd be ready even on a short notice, so that's my advice to you.Cheers mate, just looking for an idea as to how much notice they're giving people.
I also applied to Southern in December 2020 and I can't believe that's now over three years ago! After the monthly assessment centre emails, it all went very quiet until November last year when I was asked if I still wanted to be considered for the position - yes, please! And then a few days before Christmas I was invited to the assessment centre; interestingly, the two available dates were different to yours: late January or early February.I was offered the 17th and the 24th. I'm not sure if these are the dates they offer everyone though. If your application is still in progress I'd just try to sit tight and wait for a little bit longer! So this is 4 courses in total for southern so far this year. ? Thanks for the updates Sloth. You’re better than the HR department. When do you think the next ones are planned for and how many for the rest of the year. In your opinion ?March 2024 course has been arranged and filled
Thank you so much for this update! It is good to know how many courses they do in a year. If potentially, the April course goes ahead, would you happen to know how much notice they give people? There’s a mass retirement planned for the next few years from what colleagues are telling me!
theres 3 courses for January February and March so far but I’d imagine an April may also be proposed then it'll slow down for summer so maybe every other month thereafter as they usually do. At the moment they seem to be getting internals onto courses when it’s usually a 4 and 4 mix
They do try to give externals a month but sometimes try to move quicker if there’s a failed medical or a drop out. It’s usually 8 per course roughly 4external and 4internal. 6-8 courses a year currently but they’ve reduced the school instructors as they thought they’d slow down but haventThank you so much for this update! Thank you for your reply. One month notice is a very short time as most jobs nowadays require a 3 months notice. I know my employer is not flexible at all and I couldn't get away with giving one month notice. I wonder how other people manage to do it.
