Did a Dorking and Hampton Court on a 458 ten car, and it was good.My debut with 458's on both routes.
458502 and 458520.I remember because the wrong number was written on the sheet, so I had to inform the relevant parties…As it goes it was just a typo.
Awaiting a motor wheel set change. There is a phonic wheel which is part of the motor wheel set that is damaged that affects the speed sensor and generating traction faults. A previous overhauler just used to chuck them around not knowing the significance of it. Anyway the unit hobbled on MO until replacement axles could arrive. It may seem simple to the outsiders but so much of the float and supply is now set round regearing the motor wheels to 100mph rather than the 75mph configuration. We have axles but a few units vying for them.
It was better than I thought and made a change from 455s.
458 question…the Data Recorder Healthy light in one cab wasn't lit when I got to Reading…Why is this?
OK in the other three cabs.Reported it.
I've got full 458 manual acquired recently.I only did the conversion course as I learned the 458/0s beforehand (2007), so I didn't get the 458/5 bible originally, so I'm going to skim through it and see if I can find the answer.
Are 707018 + 707019 the next pair to leave SWR for SouthEastern? 5Z19 & 5Z20 are the usual reporting codes for these transfers although 5Z20 does not currently show on RTT so I could be wrong.
Real-time train running information for 5Z19 2314 departure from Clapham Yard Sidings to London Waterloo on 31/08/2023. From Realtime Trains, an independent source of train running info for Great Britain.

5Z20 now shown to run this evening (02/09) from Waterloo to Gillingham with 707018 + 707019 that have been stabled in Waterloo P20 since Thursday night

The two morning peak workings on the Epsom line that had been 2x707 then 2x458 then back to 2x707 seem to have reverted to 2x455 today. Not a problem with one of them but the 0701 from Dorking was rammed when it was 8-car previously. I suspect this is connected with the impending disappearance of the remaining 707s from SWR.

They are both booked 10-458 in the LTP from next week. 1D12, 0701 Dorking to Waterloo is booked 8-455 this week though. 2D90, 0618 Epsom to Waterloo is booked 10-458 but has been 8-455 yesterday and today.
Thank you for the update. I had noticed that 707020 has not been out for the past two weeks, so I wondered if it was one of those next to leave SWR. But 707021 is still out this morning on one of their two remaining diagrams, although it does visit Wimbledon Park today, so perhaps that will be its finale?
The 458/5 fleet must be getting pretty stretched now with only 31 of them remaining with SWR. Two of which are long term stopped (458522 & 458533), plus another three (458501, 458532 & 458535) that have been out of passenger use for over a month, so perhaps it is not too surprising that 2D90 is 8-455 vice 10-458?
Thanks, that would be good if it happens. They were briefly 2x458 last month. They were both 2x455 yesterday and today, but I was working at home. Wednesday and Thursday I shall be in the office and I'm planning to avoid the 07:28 as I expect it to be too crowded for me if it's 8x455.

There is a separate thread for ongoing maintenance which I’ll link for you, as I made this one specifically to track withdrawals (and made the other one so I didn’t have to look at maintenance info )

I created SWR Metro Fleet Withdrawals to monitor the withdrawal process (obviously I had expected 701s to be imminent at the time, so it didn’t seem premature back then) and permanent standing down/handing back of 455/456/458/707 by SWR. Naturally we’ve discussed the withdrawal of 456 and some...

Yes. If 455s were used they would be limited to 4-cars due to the short platform in the up direction at Virginia Water which would provide insufficient capacity. There were some 455s at Woking, just stabled in the Up Carriage Sidings.

Must confess, I don't know an awful lot about trains or their ops - I moved next to the tracks around 18 months ago and I'm somewhat self taught from what I've seen out of the window!

There are certainly some diagram changes on the Reading line from today (2 x 455 out all day for example). I expect the 1750 Waterloo to Reading and return is no longer 2 x 707.
