Would be unfair to deem 175s the troublesome ones today, as aside from the aforementioned lack of 67s, a 150 service has had to be cancelled due to a fault, a 231 was running severely late en-route to Penarth due to faults, and this 231 behind it will now be swapped at Cardiff Ctrl.

Unnecessary defensiveness. I personally wouldn’t want to stick up for the apparent “let’s let the things run down as soon they won’t be our problem” mentality of TfW. I’d be fuming if I was delayed due to toilets stops needing to be made in place of the two on-board toilets.
I'd be pretty annoyed if I couldn't travel for fear of being 'caught short'. Equality Act, invisible disabilities and all that.

How about the radical solution of providing adequate toilet facilities in the first place. Mark 1 coaches used to have 2 for 48 (or 64) seats.

So you’re genuinely saying you’d prefer them to cancel the train?
No. I'd be annoyed if I needed the toilet and had to get off at, say, Hereford and get the next train an hour later because the on-train ones weren't working.

Wonder if I'd get Delay Repay?

I reckon you should be able to for a decent length journey, though we’re going a little off-track here.

175106 is shuttling between Maesteg and Cheltenham today. Slightly annoying to see that pull out and a heaving 150 pull in almost immediately afterwards for Manchester, but there we go.

They did wait for 5 minutes at Hereford to allow for a facilities stop.

Not forgetting mobility
Of course. I'm not sure what the facilities are at Hereford, but at many stations the accessible facilities are only on one side. If that's not the side your train stops at then a toilet stop would need to allow for anyone with reduced mobility to catch the lift up, cross the bridge, lift down again, use the facilities, rinse and repeat. Not easy to do in five minutes.

It may be possible to use one of the two southbound platforms for a northbound at Hereford since the Birmingham trains often arrive and depart from that island. It may not of course. (In this case the train was Cardiff to Holyhead and would otherwise have used the side with only the one platform)

Even with this latest issue I would still like the 175s to work any train I am taking on the Marches as they are far preferable to the alternative DMUs (Mk 4 are nice but they don't have reliability either)

If there's a toilet stop, the train would wait for people to get back on. Sometimes there's no suitable alternative. The only other alternative is to cancel the train completely and expect everyone to pile on the next train, which may then be full and people have to stand. Or cancel it, and move people on a bus, that only has one, small, cramped toilet that generally isn't an accessible one.

175105 was on West Wales to Manchester.
Only 175109 was on Maesteg - Cheltenham.

All of those types can work that line. But only 150 & 170 are diagrammed this week. 109 was covering a 150 diagram.
I thought some 175s had booked workings to Cheltenham since May or did that change when they retained the 3 170s?

It would be very TfW if the 175s were working Cheltenham while the 150s went to Manchester. Of course the 175s were diagrammed for Cheltenham for a while when the Manchesters went to 197/Mk4 but you would like to think common sense would prevail (it may also be that is from December anyway).

Perhaps some 175s can cover any theoretical 150 diagram on the Manchesters.

The 175s should be gone by December!

I believe all Manchester to South Wales that aren't MK4s are booked 175 on paper. With the 150s covering for them.

The post by Caaardiff mentions "Booked 150", but there has not been any confirmation of what exactly that means since I questioned it this morning.

Here were the crowds trying to get on the 1749 to Manchester today, which was a sole 150. (The 153 was split off it and sent to the depot)

It started from Milford Hvn as two 153s, added the 150 at Carmarthen, dropped a 153 at Swansea and dropped the final 153 here at Cardiff. It was rammed.

The unglamorous side of the 175 shortages - which are of course no longer due to the fires but the fact TfW have to hand them back.
