Is it because 103 came in on the HoW? (Based on earlier posts today)
Yes maybe it was at Swansea this evening as I think the next Heart of Wales service 18xx was a 150.Is it because 103 came in on the HoW? (Based on earlier posts today)

I noticed when I was at Swansea earlier 158832 was sat on platform 2 (I arrived at around 1220). It was them moved ECS around 1450. They also cancelled the 1448 Manchester at short notice despite knowing it was cancelled hours before as it was cancelled from Milford. I assume the random 158 was meant to run this. The reason given was no driver and they advised passengers to use the 1505 to get the Cardiff for onwards connections.
Frustratingly I almost did a trip to Llandeilo and back today planning on getting the 1138 out and 14xx back. My return trip would have been a 175. Probably my one and only chance to ride a 175 on the HOWL. I decided against it as the weather wasn't looking too good so went to Swansea for a walk around the Marina instead and only rode 153s (Swanline!). I had a look at the allocation this morning and I'm sure both HOWL I planned to get were sprinters. Oh well wasn't meant to be!
Edit I see 175103 ended up.doing a milford haven service from Swansea this evening. The one that starts at Swansea due to the MK4 diagram on 1630 Manchester replacing it to Swansea
This terminated at Swansea 140 mins late- Trust states parts of the big delay were caused by a combination of "Allocated Stock" and "Conductor/Train Manager." Not sure precisely what happened though.175103 is on tour today working 1122 Shrewsbury to Swansea via heart of wales not sure if any set swap in Llanwrtyd
Blimey. Kind of glad I didn't make that journey if it was that late !This terminated at Swansea 140 mins late- Trust states parts of the big delay were caused by a combination of "Allocated Stock" and "Conductor/Train Manager." Not sure precisely what happened though.
Edit: Seems like a set swap to 150259 took place somewhere.
109 worked the 0730 from Manchester105 108 109 113 have all been working in west Wales today. Maybe why there are few on the Marches!
They seem to be popping up all over the place on routes they generally don't appear on like Vale or Glamorgan, HOWL and Birminghams. Almost like a farewell tour !175003 is allocated to go to Birmingham International today, from Holyhead and returning to Shrewsbury for a swap to 158s to continue on the Cambrian.
Congratulations. The 3rd carriage makes a huge difference. Even the 150s may be tolerable if they could add a 153 to keep it company.I've got 175109 for my trip to Manchester! Id forgotten the difference having 3 carriages makes. Maybe this will be my last 175 journey up to Manchester after about 17 years of using them regularly on this route.

I must admit when I saw it allocated last night I was pleasantly surprised. But didn't bank on it until I saw it was still there this morning as things do change. The 0702 from Milford is more often than not a 150 when I've checked recently.Congratulations. The 3rd carriage makes a huge difference. I see some of them turning up but for me this week it was nominally 150 both ways. In reality the 0536 from Swansea did not run on Tuesday and then GWR cancelled the 0528 so I never actually made it to the 150 that ran 1W13. Southbound trespass at Stockport meant that the 150 that should have formed the 18:30 from Manchester span round at Wilmslow and pretended to be the 17:30, whilst the pair of 153s that were supposed to be the 17:30 arrived into Manchester at 18:01 and left on time as the 18:30.
Thankfully there is no need to go for a bit now. Who knows what we will be seeing
Yes and not good to be cancelled at that hour of the morning! But at least if it was cancelled in advance you could get the next.train an hour or so later and not have such an early start. Plus having an advance ticket would generate a refund or delay repay. I think this past year I've claimed delay repay on more journeys than I haven't. Even local ones like Cardiff and West Wales I've put a claim in when entitled to it.1W13 is a train where you book an advance if you can, then know that the chances of a refund are very high. Just cannot rely on being in Manchester before 11:00 (or 12:00 many times this year).
The fact that Pyle went in as an official stop surprised me, when it was "service stop unadvertised" that made a lot more sense.
Hopefully the 197s will soon have all of this as a distant memory but for now the 175 shortages are definitely felt.
https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:W26389/2023-07-06/detailed#allox_id=0 175010/003 to Chester then 150251 from Chester to Birmingham International.175003 is allocated to go to Birmingham International today, from Holyhead and returning to Shrewsbury for a swap to 158s to continue on the Cambrian.
Got swapped for a 150 at Chester.175 003 and 010 are together and very unusually could go to Birmingham on 1I18 unless they get swapped, can’t remember ever seeing multiple 175 to Birmingham

Seems a pointless swap as 150251 can’t go beyond Shrewsbury on the return anyway, so might as well have kept the 175 on until then.Got swapped for a 150 at Chester.
The 175's needed to take over from a 197 later on at Chester.Seems a pointless swap as 150251 can’t go beyond Shrewsbury on the return anyway, so might as well have kept the 175 on until then.
That is a good effort, considering 175/0 nominally have two toilets.175003 on Cardiff Holyheads is running without any toilet facilities.
Train crew can arrange toilet stops at large stations as required if there are no working toilets onboard, there has very recently been a brief issued to traincrew regarding exactly that! That is a good effort, considering 175/0 nominally have two toilets.
What happens to someone on an advance who needs the toilet in such cases? Or does have everyone have to sprint while it reverses at Chester?
Still not ideal under any circumstancesTrain crew can arrange toilet stops at large stations as required if there are no working toilets onboard, there has very recently been a brief issued to traincrew regarding exactly that!
Well they could cancel the train so that all passengers were treated identically, regardless of their need to use the toilet en route?Still not ideal under any circumstances
Not at all, units without working toilets are only supposed to work to their destination before being returned to a depot to be repaired I believe.Still not ideal under any circumstances
My comment of it being not ideal doesn't mean it's not the best solution they currently have to the issue.Well they could cancel the train so that all passengers were treated identically, regardless of their need to use the toilet en route?
That is a good solution since the Marches trains do serve suitable places.Train crew can arrange toilet stops at large stations as required if there are no working toilets onboard, there has very recently been a brief issued to traincrew regarding exactly that!
Unnecessary defensiveness. I personally wouldn’t want to stick up for the apparent “let’s let the things run down as soon they won’t be our problem” mentality of TfW. I’d be fuming if I was delayed due to toilets stops needing to be made in place of the two on-board toilets.Well they could cancel the train so that all passengers were treated identically, regardless of their need to use the toilet en route?
