Birmingham International to Holyhead services run on weekdays usually so not quite sure what's unusual bar the fact that 150250 is allocated twice to that service
As it stands one is shown as on 1V98 16:34 Holyhead to Cardiff. No swaps are shown and as long as the crew sign it beyond Chester there's nothing stopping it going through.
Are there any Manchester-South Wales diagrams which in theory could use 197s between Cardiff and Manchester now, for example if it is worked by Crewe or Shrewsbury traincrew north of Cardiff, with a unit swap taking place at Cardiff so that the 175 coming from West Wales gets subbed for a 197 northwards?

Indeed. Although I've grown to like and appreciate the 150s more in recent months I think a 197 is superior to every type of Sprinter(150, 153 and 158) and at least equal to if not better than a 175!

Have you been riding about on some train other than a 197? Apart from being shiny and having a new train smell they fall down on various measure compared to a 158 or 175.

No. You can’t say that as a blanket statement and hence make that decision for everyone else. Opinions will certainly vary, and in any case, those that suggest a 197 is inferior to a knackered Sprinter are likely to be in the significant minority anyway. It’s all subjective.
This we’ve been over dozens of times before though. No need to revisit it AGAIN, surely

How is it a blanket statement? and why can't I say it? Of all the new CAF units that are in general quite bargain basement of the DMUs I prefer the interior on the 196s and EMUs the 397s. The 197s I find the interior to be too stark and lack warmth and on a less subjective measure I think the interior layout, with the exemplar of the catering cupboard, a waste of passenger space.

Well you can certainly say one train is better than another, but not rightfully as a concrete fact, as what you prefer is never going to be the same to others.

Everyone has their own opinion about them and you not liking them as much as other traction that TFW have is your opinion which I respect. There will be people who love them and prefer them to all other traction used by TFW and others who hate them. I used to prefer a 158 out of all ATW/TFW fleet before TFW refurbished the 175s.
I find it difficult to compare a 175 and 197 as they have a very different layout (which is no doubt part of the reason some don't like them, they are very different). But i did love the ambience of the 197. I thought the interior was very nice and I didnt feel like it was lacking warmth at all. I certainly preferred the 197 to all Sprinters (150/153/158) and would probably put them on a par with a 175 but like I said its difficult to compare them like for like.
i do agree about the catering area being a waste of space at the moment but hopefully when lots of services are formed of 4 or 5 carriages it wont matter so much as there will be plenty of capacity and the catering service will hopefully be good enough to justify the space used.

Yes definitely a 197 i rode. The main purpose of my trip back in February was to ride a 197! Had a 175 or Sprinter turned up instead I had a plan B to make sure (as far as possible) I would ride a 197 at some point during my trip to Chester/Manchester. As it turned out I managed to ride one twice.
Your opinion is they fall down compared to a 175/158. My opinion is they are better in every way than a 158 and probably equal to a 175 (although very difficult to compare as totally different layout).

Any details of these many ways in which they are better? For example I'm not that bothered about the door layout and think that having doors at 'thirds' can be an advantage in catering for high loadings in the rush hour out of Manchester\Cardiff\Birmingham and on a summer Saturday on the coast.
yes so in a 4 or 5 coach formation you are carrying about two catering cupboards.

On what would normally (and by normally I mean prior to 2023) be a 175 service with catering, does the catering trolley continue to work on services substituting with a 150, or is it written off to maximise as much space for customers as possible?

there was a trolley when i travelled on a 150 a few weeks back. However often they cannot get it through the train due to overcrowding. This happens on a 175 also.

I assume the plan is to now get the 197s into service on the marches as soon as they can rather than try and restore the 175s back to a pre March 2023 level ?

So this is the 3rd 175 to be withdrawn.

4th I believe, (002, 005, 006, 007). As far as I understand all the 2 cars have to be handed back to the leasing company by the end of August after having dilapidation works and exams at Landore for their next operator. Not sure which TOC though.
Even when they're empty they can't get through due to the narrow bit by the toilet so it's generally a static trolley on a 150 from a set of doors.

Would appear that they have decided to combat the fire problem by removing the flammable liquid(diesel) from the 175s. As evidenced at Bridgend today. Unbelievable level of incompetence
