Seems the proposed Devizes station has become seen as poor value for money, and therefore presumably won't be proceeding for time being

For Devizes Parkway to be built it would need the original platform 1 / the disused platform at Westbury being brought back into use, more likely as platform 0. All that Network Rail has to do is slew the line closer to the existing platform and resignal as bi-directional if it isn't already.

No, Network rail would need to slew the line away and put in new sets of points and an additional line as the existing line is required for freight. It would be a limited but still substantial signalling alteration.

And, IIRC reroute various cables /utilities that have been laid where the track would need to go. Mind you, if they’re signalling cables, after 40 years they’re probably up for renewal anyway.

Thanet Parkway has been delayed until 31 July.
Crwys Road - prior approval has been granted.
Barrhead South - revised possible date of Autumn 2025 (was January).

Some unofficial dates are being passed about on the relevant threads:
Marsh Barton: 18 May
Headbolt Lane: Autumn
Brent Cross West: 16 October

Any idea for the beleaguered Green Park? Whether or not it’s true, but I’ve heard Marsh Barton is ready to go, but waiting for council elections to pass.

There is a link to a Network Rail video in the Reading Green Park thread which states 'next month or shortly after'. The answer depends therefore on when that video was recorded. If recorded in April that would mean May or shortly after, if recorded in March that would mean April or shortly after. Realtime Trains has it showing as 'service stop unadvertised' (which it has had for a good while now) into the May timetable period.

Marsh Barton is still very much a building site away from the platforms.

On the other hand, Green Park is supposed to open by the end of the month (according to the Reading Borough Council leaflet that came with my dad's council tax invoice!).

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

In fact Marsh Barton is seemingly finished although there seems to be (unrelated?) drainage works (big culvert being installed nearby) and the old lane needs some TLC

For the record, for the purposes of this thread, I do not regard the 'new' Morley as a new station, rather it is a direct replacement for an existing station.

To be honest I'd forgotten about it until earlier this week when there was a tweet talking about progress on the work.

I would agree if it keeps it's previous 3Alpha (CRS) code. As someone visiting all the station (slowly), I'll still re-visit to do the new platforms, cos it's not out way and White Rose will need visiting as well.

Given that it will accessed from the same bit of roadway down the hill, and the new platforms are practically an extension of the old platforms (which will then be closed off)... it's just a redevelopment. Unlike White Rose, 850 metres away, which is definitely new.

Does anyone know what’s happening with the possible reopening of Meir station near Stoke on Trent, is it political waffle or will it actually happen?

Updated the status of the Camp Hill line stations in the West Mudlands to 'under construction', along with a link to a thread discussing the route here. Completion is likely to be 'delayed'.

Monday 8 May:
Minor updates to suggested opening dates for Marsh Barton (June from May) and Portway Park & Ride (summer from spring).

Completion is mentioned in post #4 in the thread linked from the table at #1 here: linked thread. If @The Planner says they won't open this year I'm not going to disagree. I normally insist on verifiable sources such as press releases, websites etc. but some exceptions can be made.

Miracles sometimes happen, but they are behind. That was why the Camp Hill was blocked for a week prior to Easter.

I've had a thought on this matter. I try not to do too much of that 'cos thinking hurts.

I may have been a bit hasty in the 'delayed' statement, it depends what is meant by 'winter'. I automatically defaulted to it meaning the winter timetable change, which is 10 December 2023. It could of course mean the season winter 2023/24 ie December Solstice to March equinox, or the Meteorological Office version. So if they can bring in the new stations by 21ish March 2024 then they would open in winter 2023.

The following is a quote taken from https://beta.wmre.org.uk/camp-hill-line-stations/ which states Winter.
Regular construction work will begin on the new Kings Heath station from January 2023 onwards. We’re investing £61 million in 3 new stations on the Camp Hill Line in South Birmingham. We plan to open the stations in winter 2023.
But that website now says:
We have appointed VolkerFitzpatrick as our principal contractor to design and build the 3 new stations. Work has begun on the station and we are targeting the opening date of the end of 2023.

One of my great hates is when public bodies say a project will be completed by a date like "winter 2023" (i.e. mentioning winter and a single calendar year.) It ought to mean the opening months of the named year (because on any reasonable definition of winter, more of it is after the turn of the year than before). But in practice they always mean the closing months of the year.

Of course, on top of all that, there's also Roger Ford's third law, "Always distrust forecasts based on the seasons."

It is suggested in that station's thread that Reading Green Park will open on Saturday 27 May 2023. Realtime Trains also has this information (proper calls rather than 'unadvertised').

So, with Green Park finally opening next weekend, do we know what the hold up regarding GWRs other 2 new stations now is? (Marsh Barton and Portway).

With the Portway station, the hold up has been the slow rate of works on the park and ride car park extension by the council. The platforms and other associated railway works were completed months ago.

Brent Cross West - opening now stated as 'Autumn 2023' with an official date to be announced 'this summer'. See the recent post in the station thread linked from #1.

Realtime trains is showing Northern services from Headbolt Lane from Monday 24 July.
Also showing services from Thanet Parkway from Monday 31 July.

Tell me why I do like Mondays

Guess the artist, no prize available.

Treat the Headbolt Lane timings with caution. May be delayed due to operating snags - hence the absence of the MerseyRail timings on that date.

I always treat such things with caution but some people do like to know the latest, even if it is indirect or unofficial.

I notice the timings have a short date range 24th to 29th July, then there are timings from 31 July to October. 30th is Sunday - no service.

Regardless, I shall not be Head(bolt)ing along to be on the first train.
