I doubt that a full explanation will be provided to the public. As Western 52 says it will be confidential.

But reading between the lines it seems the depot struggles to look after both the 197 and 175s I guess if they need doing every 3 weeks and they haven't capacity to do that then sets will be sitting in rhe sidings more than they will be in service. How long this will be able to continue for is anyone guess.

Despite the shortage of 175s they appear to have found a 6 car 158 for the 1032 Swansea to Manchester today, splitting at Crewe I think.
Sundays often see some unusual formations but I don't think I've seen a 6 car 158 on the Marches before

A lot of cancellations due to lack of train crew today so probably a consolidation of capacity.

A move from Chester to Longsight has ran about an hour or so ago could this be 175s? And anyone know what this move might be for?

Just seen it pass Leominster all 6 carriages looked fairly busy
Looks like 2 carriages coming off at Shrewsbury. Likely the 6 car formation was returning sets to Shrewsbury or Machynlleth for the Cambrian.

Unsure what's gone up but 175009/104 are on their way back from Longsight as 5Z13

Very rare. I travelled on a six car from Newport to Shrewsbury in June 2021. It was swapped for a 175 at Shrewsbury.

A 6 car is booked some Sundays at the moment. A 4 car goes to Manchester then picks up a 158 that lays over at Manchester overnight back to South Wales

6 car 158s are very difficult to work on the Marches, after Newport it's only Abergavenny, Hereford and Shrewsbury that has long enough platforms - and northbound only for the first of those. It'll be a lot easier with 197s and ASDO though....

Just had 175006 pass Leominster on 1V92.....doesn't seem to have much go in it....usually when the 175s leave Leominster they are moving at quite a pace by the time they pass the box but this one seemed quiet and sluggish

Surprised Shrewsbury won't take 6, other than the two bays.

Seems to be losing a bit of time. 10 late off Cardiff, but no idea if this is due to the unit.

Latest news is that they're still awaiting parts and the situation is likely to extend into April

Rail disruption across Wales will continue into April after trains were withdrawn following several fires.

More than 100 services were cancelled in part or in full at the start of March after three "mechanical failures" on Class 175 trains.

Transport for Wales (TfW) said it was struggling to get the parts it needed to bring trains back into operation.

Services between Chester and Liverpool remain cancelled, with replacement buses in place for several other lines.

"All necessary checks and repairs must be completed on our Class 175 trains before they are allowed back into service," a TfW spokesperson said.

"For some of the trains, additional engine repair work has been found to be required."

Also interesting that they appeared to have swapped one of the 3 units at Cardiff.

The 175 situation is the top story on BBC Wales Today this (Monday) evening, 20 March. The programme is available on the BBC iPlayer for 24 hours only from around 1915 on Monday.
