That's not a regular Mk4 diagram at the moment so I'd prepare to be disappointed...

I primarily booked it for the First Class fare, I hope not to be disappointed but given WMR are with far better performance statistics on my recent travels, I'm also expecting the train to be cancelled last minute. Mentally, I'm preparing for one of the hired-in Northern 150s to turn up in both directions (booked on the 1930 back) and will have a large flask of coffee with me. Quite, I'd best ensure my devices are fully charged before I leave the house!

Here's hoping the higher powers arrange a MK4 set to turn up, to put my faith back in TfW!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you, but I’m glad you’ve got the contingency coffee!

That would have been 67020. 67002 is in DB red and no longer works TfW services.

Hope someone can assist.

I did have a list of the 67s that are in the TfW pool.
a) I can't find it on my computer.
b) Cannot locate it on here (maybe my search is wrong)

Can someone let me know the full cl. 67 pool please?

Thanks in advance,

Well as it was predicted, I didn't get my 67 after all today :( 175116 vice MK4s, at least it was nice and quiet for most of the journey. Still, I'll be filing for a partial refund on the First Class fare. I've never needed to do that in 19 years, very disappointed but it is what it is. Manchester and the active travel day was very good, so that helped a lot to make up for it.

Hopefully, one day, maybe, when the stars align, I'll actually get to sample a First Class journey to Manchester!

May 2023 timetable has 2 loco hauled services West of Cardiff. Pity the 2nd diagram comes to swansea empty from canton. Be nice to have a morning loco hauled train to swansea. I've attached a screenshot of the diagrams

With the 08:32 Crewe - Manchester going via Styal for the extra bit of unusual track for a loco hauled train. That might come in handy if I'm staying in my usual place in Crewe and want to have a trip to Manchester

Not a bad use of resources if they are available as you said especially if no Sunday loco hauled service to Holyhead
We'll have to see in a few months but with if it's in the case would leave a few sets out of use and running to Swansea links nicely into the west Wales services and runs through other tourist destinations

Yes - I agree. Between 9.01 and 10.36 arrivals in Swansea from the east on Sundays - nothing. Why run this train as empty coaching stock from Canton when it could easily have plugged the gap? Of course, ideally it would have arrived in Swansea before a departure to Tenby & Pembroke Dock but the way things are, a Sunday day trip from Cardiff to Tenby and back is not worth it due to the schedules.

Seems to be 2 or 3 sets out in service this week. Both days when 3 sets in service the diagram starting with 1V31 on the 0454 Crewe to Cardiff was used. Is this to keep an eye on a set and base it at Crewe?
I'm unsure as to how many diagrams were planned to be operated at this point and if any more sets have had SDO completed.
Thanks

I saw a MK4 set on the 0454 this morning, led by 82227, when I was waiting to leave Hereford. Didn't get to ID the 67, all will be explained in the trip report, so can anyone advise me on which one it was please?

Now I know it's meant to be a 67 working, I'll be looking to use that service more often!

Seems to be just 2 sets today, HD05 on the Manchester starting/ending at Crewe, HD02 the other starting from Cardiff on the Holyhead run.
The substitutions are all 2-car DMUs.

Just travelled from Chester to Shrewsbury on 1V96, 1131 Holyhead-Cardiff Central with 67 017 (required for haulage) hauling set HD02 (DVT 82229). The train arrived in platform 3 at Chester dead on time but, after changing ends and setting off on time at 13 16 with the loco leading, it came to an abrupt halt in less than a carriage length. After restarting a couple of minutes later, it came to a halt again just before the end of the platform. Another 2-3 minutes wait and off we went again in fine style....only to come to an emergency stop just short (luckily) of Roodee Junction. There we waited for more than 20 minutes while the driver carried out fault-finding and made various calls to Maintenance Control. We finally got under way again at 13 50 - by which time delay repay had been activated - and had no further problems until arriving at Shrewsbury, where the departure was further delayed awaiting the road. It would seem that the teething troubles continue!

Two other oddities at Chester yesterday - 4x175 parked up in the sidings, can't be good news.
And at 0930 the (loaded) Chirk log train with Colas 56 was parked up on the through line, and it was still there when I returned at around 1400.

I believe the fault was purely with the equipment on the 67, so not specifically a problem with the mk4 set like the many door faults or other electrical problems.

Yes, I noticed that too. I suspect that 56 049 and the timber train were stabled on the through road - shut down with a tail lamp at each end - awaiting acceptance at Chirk, where there was a pair of 56s with another timber train being unloaded when we arrived.

It was a pleasant surprise to find one on the 7.31 from Crewe to Manchester this morning.

I was in First, the only person left after the conductor moved a few people out to other coaches and did notice the lack of First Class branding. Apart from signs on the internal doors to the vestibules (which may be open when you get on) there didn't seem to be anything else inside the train and I couldn't see anything on the outside either.

Oops.
The return 0830 Manchester-Cardiff (1V37) was cancelled at Crewe "due to a problem with the brakes".
