Yes there are problems, but not that bad:
https://www.getreading.co.uk/news/r...-service-london-slammed-unacceptable-26022176

"South Western Railways' own figures for November and December last year are that over 90% of trains ran up to 15 minutes late - it's not acceptable."

Not sure where he gets his figures from but I used the service during that time and delays were in the order of minutes most of the time. Yes they have bad days and of course we had the strikes, on those days trains were 100% delayed in that we didn't even have any. I doubt he ever uses the service.

To be fair the service is awful. Worse than it was 15 years ago now the half hourly services have gone in the evenings.

I wonder if "over 90% of trains ran up to 15 minutes late" was derived from 'less than 10% were over 15 minutes late" or somesuch, which it a very different message.

The half hourly service still runs from Waterloo to Bracknell, just not on to Reading, broadly in line with historic demand.

People might like an half hourly service west of Bracknell, but the number of passengers gets nowhere near filling an eight coach train on that part of the route even if concentrated on an hourly service.

When did the timetable change from every half hour to 1 an hour from Bracknell in the late evening?

I use that line every weekday to get to/from work and didnt realise it was hourly to/from Reading after a certain time.

I think it's down to the way the performance measure statistics are worded on SWR's website.

They've used the words "Percentage of services up to 15 minutes delayed", without making clear that it's a cumulative figure.

So for the Windsor Lines, the cumulative Moving Annual Average figures stand at 68.37% On Time, 87.95% delayed by up to three minutes, and 99.12% delayed by up to 15 minutes.

Individually, that becomes 68.37% On Time, 19.58% between 1 and 3 minutes late, and 11.17% between 3 and 15 minutes late.

With the Covid timetables.

I wish my MP would bring my line up.... He had an item a couple of weeks back in the local paper where he gets the write a page but was mostly 'I am continuing to talk to them about it.'

Waste of time.

I don't think the issue is whether the 8 carriage trains fill up west of Bracknell - I imagine very few London commuter services are full at the outer end.

It's more the issue of maintaining a decent interval service of the sort that attracts walk-on travel.

The Bracknell MP is a complete waste of time. I'm sure he's only comes to life due to a recent poll suggesting he might lose his seat at the election.

Is that at Bracknell, or percentage arriving at final destination with its multi-minute padding.

It's possible if they are referring to a specific intermediate station that someone has used real time trains or similar to get the delays.

The "new" performance metric (which replaced the Public Performance Measure in 2019) is based on calls at every station, not just arrival time at destination.

No, it was the December 22 change. Turning trains round at Bracknell has only been possible since the resignalling. There was one service missing throughout from Waterloo for a while, but the Bracknell terminators are new.

Just goes to show, most of them are useless, unless their power is in direct threat.

I wouldn’t be surprised if dude drives to London rather than get the train.

I'd be tempted to write to the relevant MP about there being no trains on the Waterloo/Guildford via Cobham line for weeks on end (except, bizzarely, on strike days?). But the relevant MP is Dominic Raab

He won’t do anything, sadly. Shame how it seems most people can’t rely on their own MP to sort local problems, which is what they were elected for. He’s also a cabinet minister, so probably to him he’ll have more ‘important’ things to do.

I do have some sympathy with local MP's here. There's only so far they can go in redirecting national policy - even when its designed by their own executive.

Strangely enough, the last 3 trains tonight going west are half-hourly with the final one leaving Bracknell at 01.20. Plenty of people would think that a brilliant service!

"Up to 15 minutes late" means all those trains which are less than 15 minutes late - which includes those that are on time. What he should be worried about is the 10% that are more than 15 minutes late.

It was only December 2022 that the trains terminating at Bracknell were introduced using the new signal installed when the line was resignalled. IIRC prior to that it was mostly half hourly to Reading but with one hour long gap.

Maybe when they complete the resignalling at February half term (Bracknell to Reading closed for the week) they might re-introduce the cut back services?
As for Mr Sutherland I did contact him a couple of times during the covid episode, was not impressed with his responses. Waste of time. Bring back Andrew Mackay, despite his failings he really got to grips with local matters, I even shook his hand when he was doing house to house calls.

It was the resignalling that enabled the cut back, rather than caused it. It's unlikely they'll be back any time soon.

Unlikely, as it is the resignalling at Bracknell that has enabled it (Wokingham has been able to turn sets back for some time). I assume it has been done as it saves a crew or two in the evening

Terrible. No wonder the MP's getting involved.
It’s three trains in late evening that terminate at Bracknell. So Bracknell still has the same level of service from London, it’s the Wokingham to Reading stretch that loses three trains.
