I'm baffled as to why they all changed to black so quickly. If anyone came to visit me in hospital and my family were all wearing black, I'd be mortified!! *Whoa there, I'm still here!!!*
That is totally disrespectful, and they should wait until there is an official announcement.

The presenters and reporters I've seen appear to have donned sober clothing but not full black tie and jacket.

Edit: Actually Huw Edwards appears to be in black.

If there's sudden news it's hard to change before you announce it, if you waited the other channels will have announced it first etc.

Should be a screen with "announcement shortly" with the national anthem playing, to give presenters a time to prepare. That's all channels that carry news. I expect the sub-channels (Dave, Quest etc) will simply carry on as normal??

I think that's pre-eminantly sensible, but I think the pace of the news media means that they (editors and controllers) will be worried that they'll miss the lead.

On the subject of black clothing, I remember the BBC breakfast presenters were wearing black on the morning after Boris Johnson was taken to intensive care with Covid. So it is maybe a precaution they take.

Apart from her hands looking purple, she looked in good shape for 96! Wouldn't have thought looking at her then that a severe illness was imminent. Of course at that age sudden deterioration is unsurprising. Also - would truss have timed her big announcement for today if she was aware the Queen was unwell?

Its possible as once she briefs the House on the Queen's passing, whenever that may be, Parliament will be suspended for 6 full Parliamentary days.

I work in the medical field, and have worked extensively with older people, and I can say that people, old and young, can decline precipitously, very, very quickly. The fact that the family are only just gathering makes me think that this is something that's happened within the last 12 hours

My grandma was the same age as the Queen & she passed away in June. Declined rapidly from a fighting fit, stoic, opinionated but lovable elderly lady to death within 18 hours. Took the entire family by shock.

It wouldn't surprise me if something similar has happened to the Queen, such as a clot or brain episode. Even so, I don't want to speculate.

That happened to my dad (88) he was in hopsital with lung issues, was getting better and had a date for release, but deteriorated in an afternoon and I was called in by tea-time. Think I saw him in the morning and he seemed relatively well, better than the two previous days.

Agreed. It was an embarrassment and disgraceful that William and Harry, being so young back then, had to comfort hysterical members of the public - their mother had died and they had to put the needs of others before themselves.
