On the Tramlink system, in the Mitcham area, there's a section of interlaced track. Wikipedia said that it was included as the cutting towards Belgrave Walk was too narrow, but, if that was the only consideration, why not just use plain single track? Was it simply to avoid building points at each end, or is there another reason?
(Or, indeed, no reason at all?)
