It certainly is half term this week in the Potteries which just about seems to be classed as the West Midlands (albeit not in the PTE part).

Now that's odd - have CrossCountry suddenly got a driver or staff for an HST then??? My guess is not if it wasn't the races this week.
They seem to be finding staff for the HST's every weekend recently.

They were also using HST's on weekdays a few weeks ago when there were diversions via Lichfield.
The Driver issue is a bit of a red herring, yes they're short of HST trained Drivers at Brum, but not elsewhere.
The main reason for not using them all week is cost saving, they are leased on a type of pay as you go arrangement.

I can’t deny I haven’t kept up much lately but I note the use of the HSTs appears to be less and less as of late – virtually just on weekends if I’m not mistaken.
Are the current diagrams still planned to be HST operated going forward, i.e. the 1227/1527 off Plymouth and the 1535 from Bristol TM?

The HST's are being used on Fridays and weekends only. Fridays its:
0611 Leeds to Plymouth
1227 Plymouth to Edinburgh
0606 Edinburgh to Plymouth
1527 Plymouth to Leeds

Very tempted by that 1227 to Edinburgh. Mind you....for not that much more you could have a day on the Midland Pullman. Fares are absolutely hideous....

Sorry to jump in here. Looking at the service patterns. Fridays are still the most reliable day to see HSTs although it looks like there have been various Wednesdays and Thursday in the last few weeks where they’ve ran. 1M49, 1V50, 1E63 and 1S51 are the most consistent.

Afternoon, is anyone able to tell me which power cars are likely to be working the following on Friday 6 May please? I assume it’s relatively easy to work out given current locations provided there’s no last minute challenges:

Likely to be XC03 - 43285+43357 on 1V44 and XC05 - 43239+43208 on 1V50, however, as even then things are subject to change and will not be allocated until the early hours on the day (such as a Voyager vice). Also the return workings can and do change on the regular with set swaps at Plymouth.

I believe its for at least this timetable change that the 06:06 Edinburgh - Plymouth and 15:27 Plymouth - Leeds and 1V44 and 1S51 are booked an HST on weekdays.
I'd love to know why they're aren't 1 or 2 more HST's in use even though CrossCountry's just had a timetable change plus being able to increase capacity.

Travelled from Derby to Plymouth yesterday on the 10.31 departure from Derby (0606 ex Edinburgh). The capacity was certainly needed between Birmingham and Exeter as it was full with a few people standing. Overhead luggage racks were very full with cases too so it would have been very uncomfortable had a single Voyager turned up. If it’s like this on a Monday in mid May the HSTs will certainly be needed for capacity this summer. There were certainly 2 HSTs out yesterday as we passed the 1227 Plymouth - Edinburgh near Tiverton Parkway.

I’m not sure if this is the right thread for this, but according to RTT 1V44 06:11 Leeds to Plymouth has coach B missing. The Power Cars are 43303 & 43301.

As a result of 6 coaches instead of 7 there's no catering from Plymouth to Edinburgh - that's gonna be popular with passengers!

Had my first ride on a refurbished XC hst today, 06.11 Leeds-Plymouth between Newton Abbot and Plymouth. It then formed the return 12.27 to Edinburgh. Another set was out on the 06.06 Edinburgh to Plymouth and 15.27 Plymouth to Leeds Both are usual diagrams,
However a third was in use on the 16.42 Birmingham to Plymouth which is interesting as don't think this is a regular HST working. This passed Dawlish Warren just after 2000. A set was also visable in Laira at just before midday. Also when we arrived at Plymouth a set was also seen in platform 4. According to RTT I cannot see that the 06.06 from Edinburgh swapped sets today at Plymouth?
