I saw 390054 at Clapham High Street this morning at 07:50 as it passed a London Bridge bound service. Seems to be running according to the timetable mentioned earlier in this thread.

I think it had 3 pantographs. It certainly had an extra bit of low roof in the middle of the unit that had a pantograph or something in it ( I was looking along the length of the train from the rear as I remember someone asking about this.

I could kick myself but was busy checking all the coaches had the digits 54 at the end of their number. To be honest I did not see the unit number.

I have now heard rumors that it is not 11 cars but I think this is not true as it was like a normal pendolino BUT with extra coaches in the middle.
The 390s are normaly Driving-Coach + Coach + Pantograph-Coach + 3*Coaches + Pantograph-Coach + Coach + Driving-Coach. I instinctivly check they are 3 + 3 + 3 because I used to check they were in the longer 9-coach formation when they were first extended.
But this possibly had 2*Coaches + Pantograph-Coach + 2*Coaches where the normal three plain coaches are. Wierd that it has three pantograph coaches.

It was so cold that my poor runny nose could not sense any results of the other test(s) requested. But I bet the aircon is over the top as usual.

Three pantographs or three roof mounted transformers as per the schematic from a few months ago?

Out of interest, what approval does a train need when it is merely two cars longer?!

The delivery of this new Pendolino demonstrates that the Government is already starting to deliver on the commitment we made last week: to introduce 2,100 new carriages on to the rail network by 2019.

quote from railway new site from rail minister

i like it how they are taking credit for something that has absolutely nothing to do with them in any way shape or form. How can these carriges be included in the commitment its a disgrace....

The same way Labour took the credit for the Jubilee line extension, Midland Metro, London Tramlink, Manchester Metrolink extension, etc, etc.

Someone wrote on my comments on youtube has named the 11 car Pendolino the Extendolino? like that nickname, like with the Class 90 loco hauled known as the Pretendolino

And in my video someone does say Oh B*****ks becuase of two reason, 1st reason is that tthe trains between Rugeley Trent Valley and Birmingham New Street were disrupted becuase of signaalling in the Tame Bridge Parkway area and they canceled Trains if you hear in the video you get an there was an annnouncemnt about, 2nd reason was that he was going to film it or take an photo but was too late to get his camera/camcorder, the Oh B*****ks wasn't planned in the video

Shame that politics appear to have consigned it to gathering dust for a bit...

...and isn't it typical to read in the Times today that NW Labour MPs are being critical of the government for sticking to the dates that were contracted by the Labour transport minister...

And the same way BoJo has taken credit for the ELL, new stock for Overground etc.

Part of the original contract was definitely that the four 'new trains' would be delivered as 9 car, and extended once arrived in UK, partly to test the arrangements to extend all the others - it's all covered in great detail in the original DfT ITT documents.

That may have led to questions elsewhere recently about when the delivery contract must have changed.

It is how big organisations work to a great extent. Bojo is speaking as the public figurehead of the TfL board, it will always be the incumbent top man who does the public speaking.

I don't see what else could be done, unless all major project timescales were guaranteed to finish coincident with the mayor's four year term. The way things are going stuff like the Jubilee line resignalling might cover quite a few mayoral terms... :D

Don't suppose anybody noticed that there is no stripes on the doors like on the other 52 390's? Will this be it's livery that it operates in, or will it gain stripes at Edge Hill? Because its not that noticeable so it wouldn't be DDA (or whatever it is) compliant would it?

It IS DDA Compliant, the DDA only requires the doors are in a contrasting colour to the surrounding area, hence other operator's colour schemes. ;)

The stripes are vinyls - there is no vinyl on it such as coach letters etc yet.

The doors are not in a contrasting colour, they are a different shade of grey.

But you can tell that that is the door though because it is a significant enough difference in the shade of grey making it compliant although if Virgin win the next WCML franchise, then it will gain the stripes I assume
