What do you mean by "act on straight away"? What would this action consist of, and what would be the end point for it?
I literally said "I am not claiming to know what the answer is".
The initial question was "what are we going to do if deaths do increase again?".
Now hopefully that doesn't happen thanks to the successfully vaccination program that has been run.
But if it does happen, then what?
Do we have a conversation about restrictions? (either delaying the lifting, or bringing some back in depending on the date in question).
Do we just encourage those more vulnerable (or whatever demographic of people end up being the most at risk at the point in time) to engage in stuff like social distancing whilst everyone else can go about their day as normal?
Do we have a frank conversation as a country about is needing to accept x number of deaths and that is the end of the discussion?
What about other options?
I don't know! And I'm not suggesting either one is right or wrong either - just speculating at what could happen based on what the original question was.
But the point in my comment was mainly around the fact that the goals
Bantamzen mentioned are long term not short term, so what do we do in the short term? Maybe the answer is just accept the deaths if indeed that happens (again hopefully it doesn't), but the answer clearly can't just be "bulk up the NHS" because that takes a lot longer.
