But unless they consistently do it, no-one will know. The customer is unlikely to be believed over an RPI, sadly, and the RPIs know this. The RPI who mistreated jonmorris0844 is still employed by FCC. I have no confidence whatsoever in the ability of the TOCs to weed out such RPIs, let alone get them prosecuted!

I never understand why TM's take that attitude....
Yes, I agree. It's rare on TOCs like TPE, XC, EC etc who have a policy of allowing undiscounted Anytime tickets to be bought on board, although more common on TOCs who have PF schemes who do not allow purchasing on board.

Perhaps the guards with that attitude on TOCs such as XC transferred from elsewhere and old habits die hard, although you have to question how they got the job!

I witnessed someone get a hard time off a TPE guard, despite asking for a ticket before the guard even said anything to him and having the money in his hand, I so wanted to have words with the TPE guard but I was with other people and it wasn't really convenient. I felt bad for allowing the customer to be mistreated. It does happen, there are some guards out there who really are in the wrong job.

The article claims the RPI/RPO contradicted himself while giving evidence - if I was the chief of prosecutions for that company I'd want to know exactly what went on, and why we'd looked like bloody idiots in Court.

It really amazes me! If I'm selling somebody a ticket, I'm usually happy - every little helps in terms of extra money for hobbies or whatever, and I know that we're monitored on how many tickets we sell over a period of time so by selling a ticket, one could argue I'm staying out of trouble! It really is that simple! Add to that, I really do not like to create extra grief for myself, and waste time fannying about in an argument when I could be using that time far more effectively. Bloody hell, if I find a ticket office is shut somewhere, I'm off down the train without fail! It's a ruddy turkey shoot - people with money, in hand and ready to pay. Just how easy can the job get?!

I'm of the exact same opinion, but many of my colleagues aren't , it is amazing the amount of people who willingly make their job that much harder, are they mental?
