News this morning that 7 out of the 8 Chiltern class 68s have been found to have cracks on the ETS Mountings.
Both CR 68 diagrams being covered by units UFN.

Just because it has only just been discovered on the CR fleet so far, I am sure the rest will be inspected shortly.Whole 68 fleet has head end power, if so, why only the Chiltern allocated fleet? 2nd fleet thai week I have heard are rumoured to have cracks. Not convinced.
I thought Chiltern had modified their Mk.3 DVTs to provide ETH so the loco doesn't provide it?
Most if not all of the DVT generators are no longer functional, since 68s came it has been okay to allow the lococs provide the ETH.I thought Chiltern had modified their Mk.3 DVTs to provide ETH so the loco doesn't provide it?
I thought it was in at idling in stations during turnaround that was the problem, much like with the Irish mk.3 sets? The DVT only provides ETS during stabling - in part due to complaints about leaving the 67s running overnight at depots like Stourbridge. Though why they didn’t look at shore supply I don’t know.

Locomotives can do no wrong.Curious. This hasn't generated quite so much hyperbole and outrage on here as the cracks appearing on the 800s and their derivatives?
In general these locomotives work few services, which appear to have almost all been covered? Therefore any disruption appears to be very minor compared with GWR.Curious. This hasn't generated quite so much hyperbole and outrage on here as the cracks appearing on the 800s and their derivatives?
Equally, DRS has sent at small number of replacement 'Spare' locos down to Chiltern already, so it's even less of an inconvenience.yep. Same when the 180s don’t play. Inconvenience yes - but most the country don’t notice. The areas they serve have a plan b. With chiltern we see a few cancellations but everyone can still get to where they want to be. Unlike on FGW

If it is EMR. the list of short forms seems about the same.I'm sure at least one operator had to do some sharpish checks on their 156s in recent days too, resulting in quite a few swaps and delays, but they can do no wrong apparently.
Isnt that just 68018?Equally, DRS has sent at small number of replacement 'Spare' locos down to Chiltern already, so it's even less of an inconvenience.
That was DB Red 67018 before the switch to 68s.Isnt that just 68018?
No. 68018 worked light engine to Wembley from Crewe. I wasn't sure if there was another non-Chiltern 68 or not. That was DB Red 67018 before the switch to 68s.
The two DRS liveried 68s with AAR couplers for working with Chiltern's Mk3s are 68008 and 68009, with 68010-15 being the Chiltern ones.

now off looking for the thread. Not seen any 156 issues.
68010 only one in use.Just seen on Railcam that there’s a Chiltern 68 on 1H22 this morning - is the problem solved?
I understand the plan is to run the one remaining Chiltern 68 without the cracks in service (can't remember which one it is, sorry), with 68018 brought in to act as a Thunderbird.Just seen on Railcam that there’s a Chiltern 68 on 1H22 this morning - is the problem solved?
It is with 68010 the oxford flyerI understand the plan is to run the one remaining Chiltern 68 without the cracks in service (can't remember which one it is, sorry), with 68018 brought in to act as a Thunderbird.
Thanks - understood. I see 1H22 didn’t run today68010 only one in use.
Iff 68010 repair or examination. Temporary measure will be a 168.
However 68018. Is being used as a emergency use only rescue response locomotive based at Wembley.
Because in the past even 66 locomotives have assisted the 68s when failed out on the chiltern mainline. Rare but has most certainly happened before.
Could be quite possible recently there have been a few failures on there. In recent times.68018 is annoyingly required for me. I flagged it on the fife circle once for an HSTDoubt there's any chance of getting it in service on the Chiltern again.
I believe there is no through control to the DVT on the non-chiltern tasked 68s. So the train would not be able to go in a Southerly direction should 68018 be attached to the non-blunt end.Could be quite possible recently there have been a few failures on there. In recent times.
Lucky could well hopefully come your way
Correct. However two non AAR fitted 68s have been provided top n tail in the past. 68018 being one of them.I believe there is no through control to the DVT on the non-chiltern tasked 68s. So the train would not be able to go in a Southerly direction should 68018 be attached to the non-blunt end.
Happy to be corrected, but I think it's only the DRS / CRCL pool locos that can actually haul the mkIII and DVT stock in service.
However, should 68010 fail en route, it's guaranteed that 68018 (at this point in time) would be attached to the formation.
Yes and also train will end its journey at the next immediate station.Correct. However two non AAR fitted 68s have been provided top n tail in the past. 68018 being one of them.
