Fishbowl or no fishbowl the viewing angles out of that cab must be somewhat restrictive. Also do drivers find cabs fitted with corridor connections cramped or claustrophobic?

All aspects of the cab have been approved by the driver's unions.

385104 made a test run from Glasgow Queen St to Linlithgow DPL and back this lunchtime, as 1Z11/1Z12. It seems to have been a staff run of some kind; there were many Scotrail managers etc on the platform.

It's a good train could be a great train with out the gangways.
100% carpets as I need to put on the blue swim shoes when I'm in it

It is laminate at the bikes and wheelchair space if I remember correctly

Well that's good to know, the ambiance of the 380s isn't very good for what's supposed to be Scotland's crack express trains, even if they are only step up units. They do have good air conditioning however.

Is the lighting in First Class subdued?

Why are these trains so damn ugly?

And why doesn't the one at the front have a full sized windscreen?

I guess it's so they can randomly be linked together but as a non-train person surely having only part of the front view available to the driver is a potential safety issue?

I would say having a non-train person as the driver is an extremely serious safety issue. Train person drivers however have had a good look through them and say that they can see what they need to.

I actually quite like the exterior design, they remind me of a DBSO. There is a kind of 60s/early multiple unit look to them. Not everything has to be raked front ends.

They don't really have look of an Intercity spec MU inside though.

Bear in mind they are somewhat outside what they were intended for - the 380s are more similar to the 334s in that respect (albeit, without the 3x2 seating - thank goodness).

Have only been on a 380 twice, North Berwick-Edinburgh return and found them very comfortable, quite and fast units. Much better than 333s or any DMU we have in North or West Yorkshire commuting belt. 185s are not that special being extremely noisy and very cramped.
I have seen a cascaded 170 still in spotrail livery on the Harrohate Loop, but not had chance to ride on them living in Ripon 11 miles from a railhead. Once in a car, you tend to stay in it to your destination and not change modes, especially after 8am as all station car parks are already full.

380S arent that bad , the 385s seats cant be as comfortable . 334s seating are suited for short distances , not a fan of mostly bays of 4s

The air conditioning is usually too cold or not turned on at all.

I can't see any plug sockets in the photos. Hopefully they've got these as the current Turbostars never seem to have any (380s have them but only at table seats).

380 aircon works ALL the time. It like most aircon systems supplies cold and hot air. As drivers we can adjust the temperature from the the cab. The only time 380 aircon stops working is if some eejit has opened one of the hopper windows.

385 sockets will be between the seats I think, so all seats should have them.

The window thing makes sense. I'll have to test that if I'm on a warm 380 ;)

I didn’t take any.

Anyway, 1st class on a 385 is of no interest to me as the maximum I will use them for is Edinburgh to Glasgow.

There is a serious lack of first class pictures online in general. First is still used on the E&G especially at peak times.

They are ordinarily locked, are they not? Though I've seen TEs unlock them before when a train has presumably just been off the depot sitting in the sun for a while… :(
