So why has it been reported that EMT are swapping the TRSBs in these sets for ex-GWR TRFBs?

I believe the latter option is correct as there is concern that 1 carriage of first accommodation is insufficient.

It should also standardise the kitchens to two types - HST (TRFB) and Meridian (DMF).

Bearing in mind the ex-GC Mk3s were built as loco-hauled stock, will there be any risk to consider in “mix and matching” with ex-GWR HST Mk3s?

There wasn't with mixing them with the TRSBs at GC, which are HST vehicles.

Only issue is that the GC sets have the original type of MW jumper cables whereas everyone else now uses the later, more compact "lightweight" type. Suspect EMT are changing the GC sets over, though.

That's also a factor. I believe the GC buffets only have a microwave which isn't suitable to deliver the EMT first class menu.

It would be very costly to put in new Disabled bogs into a TF than just swap the seating. Anyword as to the seat type, just the existing ones re-used?

Be nice to see them all tarted-up in the newer livery too the power cars look a treat already. :)

I don't know yet as none has been done but I'll keep you updated.

Possibly there in a better condition than the grand central buffets. None has been in for painting yet so it could be possible this is going to happen.

Update:

At least 2 ex GWR buffets have been selected for EMT use in the three gc sets and should be coming soon and will remain a first class vehicles so there will be 1 and half first class and 4 standard class vehicles (still more capacity than a 222). There is also a possibility that these sets will now come into service with the grand central seating in place as none have been refurbished yet and I don't see them being completed in time.

In regards to the seating the first class seats will be very familiar to some HST users when these are complete.

Why is EMT getting more Buffets as the ex GC already have buffet First in them already.

Industry brief on timetable changes shows only two ex GC sets entering service at this stage / change of timetable.

No they don't: As noted further up the page, the Grand Central buffet vehicles are standard class TRSBs, where TRFBs are required.
Oh I forgot they aren't TRFB's so what is happening with the GC TRSB's. Is the ex GC declassed Trailer first being kept.

Cameras at the ready. Power car move from Etches Park to Craigentinny today.

Why are they sending power cars to Craigentinny? Surely any heavy maintenance type work could have been done at Neville Hill?

GC only had three sets, so two is the maximum you'd expect out in service with one set stopped for maintenance.

Yes, the diagrams are shown in post 394 on the previous page:
https://www.railforums.co.uk/thread...hsts-now-with-emt.139071/page-14#post-3432992
Diagram 1 is:
1C92 0730 DBY - STP 0927
1D24 1005 STP - NOT 1203

Diagram 2:
1C52 1359 SHF - STP 1624
1M56 1650 STP - COR 1755
1P71 1837 COR - STP 1956
1F73 2031 STP - DBY 2215

STP = London St Pancras
SHF = Sheffield
COR = Corby
DBY = Derby
NOT = Nottingham

The 1203 arrival at Nottingham runs ECS to Etches Park.

As Domh245 notes, you wouldn't expect utilisation of more than 2 out of 3 sets in daily service.

Whilst on the subject of Grand Central / East Midlands Trains, when on the slightly late 13:49 from Birmingham to Nottingham (left Derby only 4/5 minutes late) I came across a GC black Mark 3. I think a member of staff on the 17:32 Nottingham to London when when we were approaching London that it's basically said that's one of the ones they've getting.

I know EMT will shortly be running former GC HST's (7 coaches I'm told although GC ran I believe mostly 6-coach sets).

I believe it is going for an exam. Don't ask me why at EC though. There is a new times with 74mph max now abs only going as fast as Heaton http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/O95025/2018/05/03/advanced

Does Neville Hill have the capability to deal with these power cars - they are MTU-engined rather all those based at NL which are VP185s .

Neville Hill does work with the XC and East Coast fleets, perhaps not heavy maintenance but they'll have experience with non-VP185 examples. Even then, there are plenty of things on an HST power car that aren't the engine that could require attention.

Maybe the powercars were just feeling a little homesick and wanted to have another trip along the ECML

NL have done MTU engines changes in the past, though I understand this is not engine related.

I would suggest this move is either because of a lack of capacity at Neville Hill or EMT have found work needed doing which hadn't been done and have thrown it back to Angel to fix (who have then contracted it elsewhere).
