Issues with the Southbound Lowlander (1M11) tonight? Arrived into Glasgow Central at 19:50 (23 mins late) and is still sat there according to diagrams

EDIT 20:52: Just departed from Glasgow Central 73 minutes late

Issue with the reversal at Shields, nothing to do with the locos or stock. 90046 and 73966 on M11 tonight.

I noticed someone taking a video of the sleeper passing Falkirk High this morning, very almost got bowled out by a pair of 380s!

Other than a bit of a farce at Edinburgh (would it really have hurt to allow Glasgow passengers off via the guard door during the hour fester?)

Yes it would as that door is not for public use.

Ah. If people wanted off then I see no need to use the guard's door, just release the passenger doors.

All doors should be closed and locked when any shunt moves are taking place, this includes coupling/uncoupling. In any case theres no need to release the doors on the Glasgow portion as this is not a pick up/set down service at Edinburgh, train should remain locked until the Edinburgh portion is split off then the doors get released on Edinburgh portion as that has terminated there.

Bring on the new trains, that will put an end to the flailing and the general hanging out of windows risking their lives.

If people want to leave a train because there is a delay and it is at a platform and the shunt is not taking place there and then, what possible reason is there not to allow them to do so?

Practice elsewhere is, as it should be, joined train arrives, doors released (passenger convenience first), doors re-locked, shunt move, doors release again (again, passenger convenience), then lock up and depart.

Bring on the new trains, that will put an end to the flailing and the general hanging out of windows risking their lives.

That has nothing to do with people wanting off.

It is not a set down service end of, doors do not get released because people want off to take photos/videos, thats not how it works. I don't understand why rules and procedures get questioned by people on here just because it doesn't suit them, especially those who are not employed by the railway! Just because you can't see a shunt taking place it doesn't mean there isn't one happening. Trains do not operate around enthusiast requests and they certainly shouldn't be wandering around platforms getting the way of the professionals trying to do their jobs such has been the case the last few nights!

I never said it did. It's something that does happen though and its a nuisance.

The photos asside etc, forget all that. It gives some people who may want to a chance to stretch their legs, fresh air.

I've never not been able to walk through a railway carriage. Maybe that's just me though...

I'm also not entirely convinced the air in Waverley station is fresher than the air inside the train. But if you really want supposedly "fresh" air, then stand next to an open droplight.

Poorly loco this morning on the way to Inverness. Left EDB an hour late. Apparently without Power. Cancelled at Perth and passengers being bussed.
Cost my colleague a days work as he has an infrequent onward connection too though at least he will get a refund which will go some way towards it.

Just off 1M11 this morning and was greeted with this fine site;

I was too lazy and tired to check what was on the front at Central last night so dunno if 86401 worked it throughout out and was later rescued by the Skoda??
We were nearly an hour early into Euston so seems unlikely, but they were both coupled up on the blocks and the can still had its pan up, but the Skoda didn't...

Hmmmmmmmmm...

Both 401 and the skoda were on front at Central with 401 DIT. Loco move.

Cheers for the fast reply JModulo.. That's a pity, same Skoda 046 both ways for me on this expedition then, can't score the 86 for haulage just yet... C'est la vie!

First time 86401's worked a train after being out of action for 7 months when it hauled 5M16 out of Euston this morning. 90046 DIT + full sleeper rake + 92010 up Camden Bank - one way of testing it out.

What's DIT? Please
"Dead In Train" - so when a loco is in the consist of a train but not under power

...so this morning on the 5M16 ECS move 86401 was on the front providing the power, 90046 was tucked in behind it, but pan down and not providing power (so "DIT") and 92010 was also on the back of the stock having worked it in from Edinburgh - so also "DIT" (or sometimes referred to as "Dear on Rear" when it's on the back like that). i.e. the 86 was hauling 800+ tonnes up Camden Bank.

Yet again an example of the railway being run for the convenience of the staff rather than the passengers - or staff blindly following the rules rather than considering what might be the right thing to do for the customers. It's so sad. If the train is stopped in the station and there's nothing going on that will affect safety, why should the doors not be released to allow people to get off if they wish to do so?

The station isn't open so it's not like passengers can pop off to the shops. If they got in the habit of unlocking the doors and I guarantee that before long we'd be hearing stories of people getting left behind at the station in the middle of the night.

How many times have people left behind in the last x years when they have been opening the doors? Well into CS’s era post Scotrail this has been happening - I have plenty of photos of 002 backing on at Waverley when I was on the Aberdeen portion - with absolutely no issue taking place...

Complete rubbish. Normal passengers are in their bed sleeping or having breakfast. You want doors released on a service that is not booked to call at a station just to please a few who want photos or videos, no chance!

Can't believe you're suggesting that staff ignore rules, we are not talking hours of delay here, it was around 25 minutes. If you ignored rules in your job would get into trouble or would your boss be ok with that???

Thats because the Aberdeen southbound doors get released to allow Ft William seated passengers to board the train, it gets locked up for the shunts though.

When have these hours of delay happened? Thankfully your opinion seems to be in a minority of Waverley/CS operating staff in my experience, most seem more than happy with the interest.
