I would agree, but what if some RP staff started wanting to inspect tickets for K&WVR passengers because technically the signs indidcate the start of the PF zone? That really would be a can of worms so I can understand why they are where they are.
What do you mean by "the start of the Penalty Fare Zone"? Are you confused about Compulsory Ticket Areas (CTAs)?
Well as the guards on the lines concerned still carry card readers, I guess they are still allowed to take card payments. So therefore those said ranger, priv and season tickets can still be bought on board. The PTP will simply prove that a passenger has boarded a station in the area that a ranger or season is applicable in and not been fare dodging from somewhere else.
So do you think Northern should alter the wording to include this scenario?
Here's a bit of out of the box thinking though. Has anyone worried about it actually asked Northern about it? Just a thought like....
Northern have something like a 2 month waiting list for correspondence to be answered.
...Northern are making stronger attempts to collect revenue that may otherwise be lost to the industry....
That isn't what they are doing
I can understand strong feelings against Northern on here from members of staff, but from a wider perspective they have been improving for most passengers and for most this new policy simply means a trip to the ticket machine before getting onboard.
You make it sound so easy! OK, I arrive at Garforth from the north side of the town, it is the evening peak, I am going towards York, I am using a Rail Travel Voucher for £10 and the rest is by card. Where do I go from
here? How long do I have to arrive before my train departs?
Its really not a hardship for most, and is pretty standard on rail networks around the world.
Northern is the only operator in the world that I know of that operates a "promise to pay" scheme in the same format.
So like I have said previously, I cautiously welcome this scheme providing of course they ensure that passengers are given at least some more information on what is expected of them, and the policy is handled sensibly especially in the first few months as it beds in. So why doesn't everyone at least see just how it actually works out, instead of leaping to conclusions and making assumptions? I for one as a user of these lines daily be very interested to see just how it pans out, and if it works and reduces the chronic fare evasion I see on a regular basis I will welcome it.
Are you not aware of what Northern have been up to recently? See
this thread.
Oh please give it a rest, your instance on searching for some possible reason for this to be something sinister is rapidly becoming tedious. I get it, you don't like Northern / Arriva for whatever reason
Thre are plenty of reasons for concern in
this thread .
and are looking for more reasons again. Meanwhile people on the two lines involved went about their business as usual, there were no massive issues, no sinister Northern contracted staff dragging people away for daring to walk past a TVM, no riots, no civil unrest. Just a minor change which required people without a ticket to obtain one before boarding
Weren't people supposed to obtain a ticket before boarding if possible anyway?
But on your behalf,I have contacted the UN to deal with this blatant crime against humanity, although they did seem to hang up the phone....
If you think this is trivial, why are you still posting on this thread? It's easy for you to dismiss concerns, but how would you like it if you had the means to pay for a journey and were offering to pay at the first apparent opportunity and yet the contractor working on behalf of Northern said they were not issuing you with one and asked you for ID, and then you get a letter telling you it'll cost you money to pay the fare and you can't use your chosen payment method and if you didn't sort it out (at your own expense) within 21 days there would be serious consequences.
As this has not happened to you, maybe you do not know how others might feel about it Just a thought!
