There appears to be a train broken down outside of Doncaster blocking other trains going north. Can anyone provide any other info?

1S09 is broken down just after Shaftholme jn north of Doncaster. The rescue engine has arrived to bring it back to Doncaster.

Thanks for confirming which one has broken down. I'm curious as to why this has taken so long to deal with, it seems additional issues were found when the rescue locomotive arrived. Any ideas?

Looks like they are sending a Leeds train around you on the slow. Literally ran out of places to loop trains heading to york now.

1D15 has just hurtled passed on slow line - guard announced it was Leeds train so not affected by broken down train. We will be held here for a while due to congestion.

It's been quite a while, I was on the 10:00 EDB-KGX to Doncaster, we passed by at about 12:55 and a DBS 67 was already attached, so that's about 3 hours for a train that failed 10 minutes from Doncaster (where I assume the 67's been?).

A couple of years ago I was on a train that failed at Alnmouth one Sunday, was only an hour late into Doncaster, which included a drag from a pair of 66's and 15 min's at Newcastle.

If it's taken a while to move after the loco has attached, that may suggest there's an air and/or other brake issue preventing movement. In which case, you're a bit stuffed.

South of the main disruption, 1S23 15:30 London King’s Cross - Glasgow Central has come to a stand just south of the platform at Stevenage, with all services using the down slow from Woolmer Green to Hitchin.

Wasn’t it an air brake problem caused by vandalism that affected the Kings Cross to Glasgow service yesterday?

I’m sure it was around the Doncaster or York area as well. Possibly related in some way?

Had a text from the Mem. She advises the problem with 1S09 was a main res pipe fault. That explains the hissing air leak upon arrival back at Doncaster.

Seemingly this is the second time, that i am aware of, that problems between the failed train and rescue loco have occurred in the last week or so with VTEC.

The problem with the 1S09 breakdown was actually that although the fitter and rescue loco were deployed in good time, the fitter and driver had to make multiple different repairs to a badly damaged brake system before there was enough air pressure achieved to continue. There wasn’t really just one area of damage, but that fact was discovered after a substantial amount of time.

I don’t know precisely why the brake pipes (etc.) suffered quite so badly, but it adequately explains why another train had to examine the line.
