Those that do will just add more traffic, bigger delays in Warrington at the various major junctions and that is not forgetting when the MSC bridges get opened to let a ship throught too! Eventually they will use the "new" bridge!

(When "new" bridge opens, the Jubilee bridge will be closed for about 12 mths to play catch up on repairs along with decreasing the road lanes to one in each direction!)

As for the taxi drivers in the borough, I think that is fair to be honest but they can register for reduce charges in various ways with as I understand period passes too. So it wont be £2.00 each way although I suspect taxi drivers will use that as an excuse to make more money! :lol:

Quite right and don't forget the Jubilee Bridge will close on the day the new bridge opens, and when it reopens it will be tolled too. I was at a presentation last week about the tolling arrangements which is presently "on tour" advising transport operators of the costs and arrangements. We can also expect a media campaign to start shortly across all forms of media to alert the general public. Just remember, if you don't haven't prepaid for your trip you have to 23.59hr the following day to pay the bill, otherwise potentially you could end up with a GBP60.00 bill.

It just shows how "joined up thinking" should have worked. The chord should have been completed before the new Bridge, with all the traffic delays (during construction) and future Tolls. The car parks at Helsby and Frodsham extended, in readiness and rail taking the initiative to offer a better alternative to road. It would have meant staging the resignalling from Runcorn to Weaver in to Part 1 of the the Weaver Wavertree overall scheme, but totally possible. Now how many meetings and different bodies would that have required????

I travelled on the parliamentary train last Saturday from Chester to Runcorn, noticed on the curve, concrete sleepers, plus other items which I have not idea what hey were, all at regular intervals along the line.

Something was happening today on the curve near junction with North Wales line. Engineers were there installing some sort metal object

Well I was driving at the time, so it was just a view from the car, I suppose you could say it looked possibly like a new signal, it was that sort of shape. A crane was involved.

This one has all the hallmarks of them reporting what NR tell them. There isn't a press release on NR's site yet but the media report linked by Cheshire Rover has quotes from the SoS for Wales, the Liverpool City Region Mayor and the Northern Powerhouse Minister.

Remember George Osborne? When he visited the works for the fourth platform at Manchester Airport station, all the media put out NR's line that it was the start of works, but they had actually started seven or eight months earlier.

Murphy will be the contractor, if the site photo is anything to go by.
NR were disinterested to say the least in the Saltney scheme, not seeing the need for it.
This time I think they are taking the political requirement more seriously.
It's fortunate there's the Weaver Jn-Liverpool upgrade to hang it on.

t is a pity that Northern are not the operator as the 769 FLEX would be the perfect unit for such a route.

And based at Allerton too.
They'll scrabble a couple of 150s from somewhere.
It's not even certain W&B will be operating the initial service anyway (funded by Merseytravel).

Chester to Liverpool Lime St is 17m22c via Hooton (and 14 intermediate stations). Some trains miss out Capenhurst, but otherwise it's a tedious all stations.
Via the Halton Curve it is 27m36c, with 7 intermediate stations. It seems the new trains will stop at most of these.

Speeds via Hooton are 70mph max (60 north of Hooton and much slower north of Rock Ferry.
Speeds via Runcorn are 75mph on the Cheshire section and 80-95 north of Ditton (very slow on the Halton Curve and through the junctions at either end, and after Wavertree).
Journey times are going to be much the same at about 45 minutes either way.

That being said about the journey times, the service frequency will be one point to bear in mind when comparing both these routes.
