In case you havn't noticed the disabled coach is now in E quite sensible and so the family carriage was moved.

Also the fact that E often only contains the two disabled tables while D always has at least two.

Coach E I can understand as the disabled one, having the disabled toilet there as well. Problem is I think it still has that slow door at the end, must be the slowest opening door ever!

That's because EMT HSTs are a fairly standard format. It can get very confusing on Voyagers. When a double Voyager is working and one is in reverse formation, you can end up with a pretty random order. I experienced this earlier in the summer on a journey from Plymouth to Exeter, even the TM announcing all the coaches sounded a little confused!

On doubled Voyagers i've seen it have A in the middle, no wonder passengers get confuced

That's because coaches A and G are always First Class coaches on double-sets, but I've unusually seen double-sets, where both sets have been exactly the same way round, with FC at one extreme end, and a Quiet Zone at the other, yet the FC coach in the middle, has been labelled A, instead of the leading FC coach..

How does the TMS decide where to allocate coach letters, on double-Voyager sets? I'm assuming that the TM can't swap them around, to have one set A-F, instead of G-L, and vice versa?

The TM can change them, because in MM days I got the 0652 Nottingha,-St pancras. It was 8car (4x2) and the TM said the Rear 4 arent inservice till Leicester. Coach L was in the rear 4 and we had reserve seats. He said the ticket people had made a mistake. Then 3mins later he ammounced 'Sorry I have made a mistake, Coach A is now at the back instead of the front. Sorry, Ive not had my coffee this mornig!! lol

Good news! Removing it was an absolutely daft idea.

All being well 221126 should be in service today, it's diagram starting with the 07:24 Derby-Plymouth. The changes are highly minimal to the interior, concerning only the replacement of the shop facilities with trolleys. Where the bicycle storage used to be in the quiet coach behind the cab, it is now where the trolleys and microwave shall be based. Where the shop was is now storage for 3 bicycles at the vestibule end, and a quite considerable area for luggage at the saloon end. Both luggage and bicycle areas are covered by new CCTV cameras, presumably to encourage people to not be nervous sitting away from their baggage.

I had the good fortune to be sent to Central Rivers to photograph these changes, so expect to see the edited photos either this evening or tomorrow.

Also bagged a few rare others whilst in there, so these will also go up but in a passworded collection. The password will be available via PM because anyone could browse and get it from the forum post.

There is not one single extra seat as I can tell, the area between the two pre-existing gangway doors is just for bicycles and luggage. Seating should be free of baggage in theory IF people actually use the new area, it is quite a size compared to the rest provided on a Voyager.

My guess is people won't use the new area for the most part, in the same sense that my Nottingham on Saturday had people standing from New Street in the back coach complaining there was no seats. I walk through to the front carriage where there were 5 people sat in total. It's this general acceptance of defeat, or the creation of a fact with no real proof, that hinders the efficient use of units that are admittedly too small for the job.

I see that all the time. Everybody crowds in coachs D & E on an EMT HST where there are plenty of seats in coaches A-C. Sometimes I just think people can't be bothered to look for a seat or think that there isnt any in the other coaches too.

Are the Voyagers going to be internally refurbished at some point then?

As said, interesting. I personally don't see that much benefit in the remodelling, when compared to what the cost would have been! I'm also surprised they didnt' use the opportunity to change the interior, although they are still fairly new units.

I assume you can't get hot food now other than the consistency of pot noodle or soup! it's an embarassment to think you can't get hot food on a journey from Penzance-Glasgow at a very high cost, but for probably cheaper you can drive and stop off on the way (though I'd probably not want to drive between the two!)

On the second part of your post, yeah, why, when we need as many trains as possible, and people don't care if they have to walk to the shop! the local newsagent down the road, we don't mind walking to it, they didn't say "we're replacing it with a trolley service of cold beverages, newspapers and a wide selection of fags"

I'm suprised at that too. It's going to have to be done at some point isn't it. I thought they would have wanted to get rid of the Virgin Interiors. Some of sticky paper covering the Virgin Trains logo on quite a lot of the emergency information signs has come off.

Ah I'm not really bothered on East Midlands Trains 158s, I love it how there's a Central Trains safety poster (or Wessex Trains in the case of alphaline units) then an EMT map On a couple of Northern 150/2s there's even still the old BR paytrain stickers (can't remember off the top of my head which ones)

Sigh......not wanting to support the DfT, but their research did show that most journeys on XC are less than 2 hours, with an increase in intra and inter regional travel, and very few people traveling more than half the length of the journey. there are some, but not many, and there's no catering at all North or Edinburgh (or IIRC west of Plymouth).

The data may be flawed, but the rationale makes some sense. After all if we take other 2hr mean journey between cities (not going to London), FSR, FGW, ATW*, LM, EMT, TPE, Northern do not offer hot food either.

*They will do soon, but only on one service a day, at a premium.

which is what annoys me about all long journeys. In my opinion on intercity trains, and on journeys over about 3 hours start to stop, a buffet should be provided, and on local services, when demanded, a trolley. Much easier on staff too. It's quite unbelievably stressful doing trolley service sometimes, I know from experience

Lol hope not. I for one am annoyed at the removal of the shop. As I travel between Chesterfield and Derby to go to Uni. If I missed breakfast and wanted some hot food on the go I would go to the shop and buy a bacon baguette like I probably will tomorrow (knowing my luck I will get 221126 on the 0735 to Derby). I'll just use East Midlands Trains after the timetable change as their times will suit me more.
