As you may or may not now that 221 126 has had it shop taken out , this is first off the whole fleet so now we will have to have luke warm tea from a trolley how can arriva cross country call this progress when they are charging us a fortune to use the packed , smelly trains in the first place . They claim they will have 14 extra seats by doing this but whats the point when the train is completly packed

I still think they should keep the shops, but add at least 2 or 3 more carriages to the sets. Those Voyagers are awful at peak times, or even some off peak times, as they can be completely full up, leaving standing room only. If they are using 4 or 5 carriage trains on services that run from one side of the country to the other, they should most definately be able to cope with large numbers of passengers.

Voyagers should have been at least 6 carriages, preferably 7 or 8, and they should have kept a few HSTs running. The general idea was correct (spread the traffic by offering more opportunities) but they forgot that people will still want to travel at the peak times.

No offence but Virgin made a mess up with the ehole Voyager scenario. The Super Voyagers were supposed to be used on the West Coast yet sets are used everwhere, the sets are too small after replacing the BRILLIANT HST's and the 47's and Mk. 2's which were at least 7 cars. You can't really blame XC trains for getting rid off the buffets as they were too crammed in and they are getting more seating which is helping YOU!

5 cl 221 units go to VWC in December, replaced by the 5 HST's.

Can't say I agree with you Mintona...

Either way, it's going to be very, very weird to get on a Voyager with Arriva and not see the shop.

Not a fan of the removal of the shop myself, no longer will I be guaranteed a decent cup of coffee (as I enjoyed on 220012 when I needed one badly back in September, the difference to FGW's offering was shocking) or have the chance to enjoy some hot food. Nor is there the chance to have a friendly chat with the staff at the shop when it's nice and quiet, it's all going to be rushed through with almost-cold coffee.

Granted, I do like that they will have extra seats on board but I wish it could have been done without removing the shop.

Don't blame XCT, blame VT. When XCT realised it was a stupid idea, they said they weren't going to do it. But VT threw a strop as it was a proposal of the original franchise. Tw*ts.

I'm not into blaming either XC - the DfT are the ones setting the crazy limitations. Professional Transport Managers are being shunted out of the way for penny-pinching Civil Servants with political motives.

No, it was the SRA who restricted it.

Also, let's not forget that the Voyagers contain roughly the same seating capacities per day as the trains they replaced. However anyone could see that passenger numbers were going to increase when the service was improved - this was their key mistake.

Well if you speak to any Virgin staff, the plan was always to extend the voyagers, hence the labeling of the carriages. Just a shame that the money couldn't be found to extend them all to 6 carriages. Then they could've run all the services they needed to, with reasonable capacity!! What a plan that would be, and probably wouldn't be that expensive!!

the HST TRFB coaches are DEFINATELY staying by popular demand. AFAIK, the plan with 222s is to turn the shop area in to seating (standard) and remove some first class seating for a small version for first customers only, standard class being trollies only.

Finally, someone who isn't slagging off Voyagers!

I do find it incredulous that most of the shop's former space will be re-designated for luggage. Mind you, at the same time it might help stop norms filling the seats and the wheelchair spaces with their luggage.

Same as the 175s. 3 cars are ABC, 2 cars are AC. And of course, 4 car Voyagers are only ACDF.

That is way to straight forward, there is no couch A on a NXEC trains, it goes B,C,D,E and then i've no idea.

i think this couch lettering thing is the most complicated thing on the railways.

On doubled Voyagers i've seen it have A in the middle, no wonder passengers get confuced

I've never had a problem? I can always remember EMT's HSTs. Standard HST and pullman rake respectively: standard class black, first class red
