I think the new GWR livery is amazing. It's made the 40 year old HSTs look brand new again. If you look at one of the FGW HSTs from the front and then look at a new one, the difference is incredible.

Honourable mention to Grand Central too.

I don't like the VTEC red and white. It just looks cheap. I think it would have looked loads better if it was either red and grey (like the new Azuma) or red and silver.

Think the question needs to be broken down into categories to be of any use, as there's no point comparing a 60's passenger carriage livery with a modern day freight loco!

Favourite current (pass) - Scotrail
Lease favourite current (pass) - Grand Central or anything white

Favourite current (freight) - None great, DRS compass probably
Least favourite current (freight) - DBS/Cargo red

Favourite classic - Intercity swallow or Virgin red/black
Least favourite classic - Midland Mainline (revised) - probably looked worse because what it replaced was so good and didn't need changing

My fave would have to be NSE toothpaste, as applied to a 50 of course....

Note a lot of people like TPE grey and blue on here. Think it will suit the new units really well but not the 185's as they lack the sloping front end to match.

Least fave AXC, it has always looked a cheap and temporary mod to VXC colours and shows the lack of effort or care in the franchise by its management.

Quite right- definitely appeared grey-ish on the first few images I saw though.

Favourite, Large Logo Blue, Rail Blue.

Least favourite, Porterbrook, Colas.

I'd forgotten all about that Porterbrook livery- at it's very worst when applied to 55016 (?) Along with Sprinter-style light-clusters! Though the original colours given to 57601 were pretty horrible too.

My favourite for Locos would probably be the DRS class 68 style livery or Caledonian Sleeper livery. For passenger, I quite like Cross Country.

My least favourite for locos would be the compass DRS livery. Least favourite for passenger would be Chiltern Mainline (silver) livery.

What's the new livery like?

For the new 325 livery, the red is more bold and the yellow lines on the sides have been removed.

And it kinda shows as it still has the red rooftop from Virgin Cross Country and the standard class seats have barely change. At least they put bit of effort on the Turbostars and HST

You're kidding, right? The removal of modest twin-yellow stripes has rendered your favourite livery into the worst? Hell, you're fussy!!! :p

Take me out for dinner and hand me the menu then you will see my full potential on being fussy :)

I'm very fond of Regional Railways livery. Simple but effective. The idea of the 'fleximark', or the blue/white stripe emblem, is that it's indelibly stamped on the mind of the passenger. It still is for me, years later!

Also NSE livery as applied to the Turbos. Again a very striking and effective livery. Sectorisation was a colourful time and produced a lot of creativity.

Also, from the halcyon days of BR management buyouts, the very classy GWT 'Merlin'.

The modern crop don't do anything for me I'm afraid!

Can anyone give me any information on what sort of livery the Britannia class worked with? I know of the standard green/black and black. I was wondering if any of them operated in either blue or red/maroon.

They only wore variants of green.

ScotRail Saltire, GNER, Midland Mainline Blue, Grand Central, and First ScotRail Barbie.

Least favourites include the bland-and-boring Southeastern, Great Northern, and ThamesLink liveries, as well as Central Trains' stupid livery.

I'm not keen on GNER or MML Blue. Grand Central and Scotrail barbie are alright, but I do quite like Saltire and I'd say it's an improvement over barbie. As for Central, it wasn't bad but London Midland is definitely an improvement in my opinion.

When you say Southeastern, are you referring to the white or blue livery, or both?

What does everyone think of the livery on the new Virgin Azumas?

Here's a pic from their Twitter feed that appeared late last night.

I think the train looks good, but not sure if the swirling red does it justice. I think it would look smarter with straighter lines and more solid colour.

That looks so 'Shinkansen'! I think the livery would be much better if there were more of the red swirls and less of that dodgy advertising. The white looks fine, but it was much better on its own.

Agreed. Should be all red.

The bland white one. The Central Trains' turquoise livery is OK, but their yellow, green and blue seemingly vomit-inspired livery was terrible!

Has this been confirmed as THE livery for the VTEC Azumas? I thought this was just a temporary thing that was applied back in March or April?
